Possible autox f-body meet

posted in the road race forum, but ill add it here so more people can see. we're trying to get a bunch of guys together for one, if not more, autoxs at giants stadium. the first run is sunday, march 9, 8am. $45 for non members, $35 if you joined. the first race is a test&tune, no points, so there shouldnt be much of a problem getting everyone into our own sub-class, so we can compete against each other. its a full day, and you get on the average 8-9 runs. decent people, you can learn alot of stuff, have some fun, and learn theres more to life then just a straight line.

here's the schedule so far:
sun. 3/9 test & tune
sun. 3/16
sun. 3/23 "tentative", whatever that means
sun. 3/30
sun. 4/6
fri. 4/25 am school, pm autox
fri. 5/23 same
fri. 6/6 same
sun. 6/8
fri. 7/25 am school, pm autox

they usually add a few more in august and oct. the sunday runs start at 8 (get there by 730 to be safe). the friday runs start autox at 2

heres the site of the group that runs the show. you have to go to a diff. site and create a garage, to register your car. its not the easiest, but if you follow the directions, its fairly self explanatory.

http://www.motorsportsne.com/

they have helmets to loan if you dont have one. autos can race too, its just not quite as fun. you dont need anything special. for your first event you get an instructor for your first and/or second runs. if anyone is interested or wants to learn more about it, PM me or 2mchpwer, hes part of the group. we can all meet at my house if you want, i live 5 min from giants stadium. you can set up your car, empty it out of extra stuff you dont want rolling around, use the bathroom, etc. i have extra tape for car numbers, can bring a cooler/thermoses for drinks, whatever.

i talked to Tim a little at todays meet, we're trying to get more people into the autox/road race scene. theres alot more to racing then just drag. once you get bit by the handling bug, it becomes more addictive then just stab & steer.

Blacdout96 02-17-2008 10:11 AM

Anybody who reads this, you gotta come out and try it. I know drag racing is fun for alot of peopel on here, but change it up and come on out and twist around some cones, it is fun, and makes fora great afternoon.

Did anybody ever find out about their noise restrictions because I thought last year when I read the rules they didnt allow bullet mufflers or really loud cars??

I would like to try it a few times just to push the limits of my car especially since it is 1 mile up the road from my g/f's house..

//<86TA>\\ 02-17-2008 01:37 PM

i wont make it cause the car is all apart, but i was wondering....
how does this work as far as classes/car mods? im sooo far from stock i think the only stock part on my car is some of the wiring and the interior plastic. Do you need different safety equipment? roll bar? racing harness?

no extra safty equip really needed/ no noise restriction at giant stadium.

ar0ck 02-17-2008 04:27 PM

I'll be most certainly going on the 9th, thats as far into the future as I can see

EchoMirage 02-18-2008 08:09 AM

if you heard all the little jap buzz bombs running around, or the full out race cars (like little snowmobile engined formula racers) youd see theres no noise restriction at all. im probably one of the loudest cars there, as far as V8s go.

as far as classing goes.....theyre rather lax with classes. plus, most of them are centered on 4cyl jap cars (they wouldnt know a new LS1 intake from stock) and they dont really get on their stomaches to look at your susp. if you dont tell them you have shocks/springs, they wont know. most LS1/LT1 cars will be in class C. 3rd gens might be in F, or C with more mods. if they know beforehand, they should stick us all in our own sub-group. its mostly just for fun. dont worry what class youre in, just try to compete with your own times, or times of us other f-bodies.

for saftey, just a helmet and seatbelt.

alex.....good to hear it. my offer stand to anyone if they want to stop by my house first, get their car ready or use the can before hitting the staduim.

I think i may have that day off, i've been trying to get to an auto x for a year but work kept coming in the way. Can I register at the event or do i have to do it online first? Anything I should do to my car(to pass tech inspection), its a bone stock 06 cobalt ss/sc? I don't want to drive 60 miles to giants stadium to be turned away, thanks.

EchoMirage 02-19-2008 03:43 PM

if its stock and new, you should be fine. make sure your battery is tight, nothing broken or loose, the usual stuff.

you do have to register online first. they dont accept walk-ins anymore. ill post the direct link to the site. you have to go to 'create my garage' or something like that. then after that, you register for the club's event. this is the link to the registration page:

https://axwaresystems.com/axorm/profile_main.php

you also have to subscribe to the club. the clubs name will be listed in the dropdown box as "Motorsports NE Club", or something like that.

this is the clubs site:

http://www.motorsportsne.com/

if you have any problems, PM or AIM me and ill try to walk you through it, its really not the easiest to navigate. also, you and anyone else is welcome to stop off at my garage before the race, if you want to rest, bathroom, clean/set up your car, etc.

I got a note from a guy at NastyZ wants to know if he can come with his Cobra replica (his 81 Camaro isn't ready yet)

Is this f-body only?

EchoMirage 02-23-2008 04:16 PM

no, anyone can come. what i was trying to do was just to get more f-body guys out there, specifically from this club, since we all already know each other. the group is 90% rice, 5% porsches, and usually 2 f-bodies, me being one of them. i was trying to make this an unofficial meet, get people who havent autoxed to try it and hopefully let them learn that theres more to life then just a straight line. whoever wants to come can come, provided they register and whatnot.

Wow thats too cool. I work as a construction inspector for the Meadowlands rail and roadway improvement project. Looks like March won't be so boring!!!

I f peopel bring Racecars there, I wouldnt expect them to care, as long as crap isnt falling out of your car, or your leaking fluids, thats really their only worry, that something comes off and hurts someone, or damages a vehicle, other then that, they'r spretty leniant. Jut go under your car before ya go, and double check all your suspension hardware, makesure its all tight, and pretty much your set.

Josh just went over it this week with the new oil change, so aside from changing my wheels & tires I'm good to go.

EchoMirage 02-24-2008 08:27 PM

inspection doesnt matter. there are plenty of off-road cars there with no stickers, reg, insurance, etc.

BrandonDrecksage 02-24-2008 08:55 PM

when is the last day to register? I won't know if i can do it till tuesday or wednesday. I also may be picking up a 96 formula hardtop to race instead of the cobalt as long as the car isn't sold by then.

EchoMirage 02-25-2008 03:52 PM

i think the last day is the day before the race.....but id do it ASAP because they limit the num. of cars there, and dont make acceptions. most of the early year runs are 100% full, so dont waste time. you can always change your car/class once youre there. most important is to get into the system.

currently as of 2/25 there are 59 out of 100 people registered. it will fill up when it gets closer.

Mike 02-25-2008 04:08 PM

they might. theres nothing that says it cant run. they say somewhere they dont allow trucks, but thats not a regular truck. to be safe you can email them and ask.

why would you........theres a guy who races his 55 chevy, with stock suspension. come over and have some fun.

but i want to remind everyone that this is NOT a show up and drive event. you MUST register at the website beforehand, they do not take walkups anymore. anyone interested please go to the site before all spots are taken. even if you dont show, at least youre in it incase you do show.
