The Paramount Theatre (Change of Venue)
Asbury Park, New Jersey

It was at the Pony. What is this place, anyone familar with it? Anyone want to go? They are supposed to be pretty good.

I did a Springsteen show there once I think. I think thats the theater on the boardwalk. Not a bad place. I cant remember the seating capacity, but its cozy.

79CamaroDiva 03-04-2008 10:00 PM

That's pretty awesome that the band is all women. They sound reasonably accurate too.

r0nin89 03-04-2008 10:56 PM

No but I'll be at the Misfits at the pony next month.

TAdan 03-05-2008 07:27 AM

r0nin89... Misfits? Thanks for the heads up.

The Springsteen show was most likely at the Convention Center, which is on the boardwalk. The Stone Pony is a small club down the street from there. Was at a handful of shows there in my youth (Life of Agony, Clutch, a few others). Tends to get packed wall to wall. No seats. Mosh pit up front.

One of my fondest metalhead memories took place there. We used to get there early and tailgate. The place was surrounded by buildings that were either falling down or never got finished being built, so it was kind of cool as you could just walk into one of them when nature called. Anyhoo, we got absolutely hammered in the parking lot; by the time one of my buddies got there after work, I was blasted enough to say something that should've started a fist fight. To this day, I'm amazed he still talks to me. When we ran out of beer, me and my other buddy went into the bar next to the Stone Pony for another. Turns out that it was (Don't know if it still is) a gay bar. And there was no carry out. Needless to say, it was the fastest I ever drank a beer. This buddy disappeared from the mosh pit halfway through LOA's set and suddenly reappeared during his favorite song. Still had dried puke on his chin. Good times. One of the best shows EVER.

But I digress. Sorry. The Stone Pony was a pretty cool place to see a show. I'm just too old to enjoy going anymore. I hate crowds now.

I've seen a bunch of shows in the Pony and the 'big top' tent they used to put up outside. Anthrax, Fight, Dio, Widowmaker. Saw Leslie West at the pony about a year ago. So good.

The Pony was so much fun to see bands at. I've seen the Misfits, Murphy's Law, Warzone, Life Of Agony, Agnostic Front, Catherine Wheel, Shelter, and a ton more, plus played there a bunch of times, and got arrested there once lol

Being 30 I might have missed the boat on LZ, but thats one bands music I honestly never got. It never did anything for me:shrug:

r0nin89 03-06-2008 09:22 PM

Wow I would love to see Anthrax at the Pony. They dont really book big bands too locally anymore.

And yeah the Misfits is playing like an unannounced unadvertised show there.

I remember my ex telling me about how I was born a few years too early and missed the good ol Slayer at the Asbury Convention Center days.

If you go farther back in history, Black Sabbath played there in 1975 (in fact the show can be streamed online at wolfgang's vauult), and Zep played there in 69. I think the Stones might have back in the day as well.

Early plan is this...

Kelly's Tavern in Neptune for grub & beer, then go there.

Savage_Messiah 03-08-2008 09:31 PM

I might be interested too

BonzoHansen 03-08-2008 09:31 PM

Come on down.

BonzoHansen 04-10-2008 08:43 PM

We still plan on hitting Kelly's Tavern for food & beer and then going to the show next Saturday. Anyone interested?

Tru2Chevy 04-10-2008 10:44 PM

No time off due to new job + days off for closing and moving.
