Software Help

Long story short the wireless router they give you with FiOs sucks so i'm trying to use my linksys router I have lying around

it's a WRT54G v5 & i need the install files

please do NOT point me to the linksys website as it doesn't have what i'm looking for

what I don't want

1972LT1 03-08-2008 02:09 AM

I've got FIoS. What's wrong with the router?

Knipps 03-08-2008 02:12 AM

the wireless route I have (Actiontec MI424-WR) is notorious for going south and that's just what happened

i can't manage to stay connected to the wireless for more than 2 minutes at a time

Is that an older model? I just got FIos 3 weeks ago. Is this something I should be worried about?

Knipps 03-08-2008 02:21 AM

i did get it a few months ago, you can tell what model yours is by simply looking at it..
if you don't have it post up what model you DO have, i'd be curious to know if they've replaced it (probably not)

but yes, it's something to keep in mind :-?

just do a little research on my router model and you'll see lots of complaints... it's ONLY the wireless part though, any wired LAN should be ok

Just checked..I've got the MI424-WR . What do you mean goes south? Can't be worse than Comcast. Their's wasn't even wireless.

the wireless cuts out, you get a signal for upto 10 mins at a time, that's why i'm looking for the install software off my old wireless router

I have had zero issues with mine. MI424-WR

Knipps, did you check the FIOS website, I thought I saw info on how to do it there. or check the forums at broadbandreports

Knipps 03-08-2008 11:39 AM

i looked around for a while last night & it seems like the only solution is a 2nd router, it's not really a problem other than with the router itself.

mine worked fine for months too, then idk what happened

Knipps 03-08-2008 11:56 AM

my problem isn't that i have a bad signal, or bad service, i get booted after being connected for between 30 seconds and 2 minutes

BonzoHansen 03-08-2008 12:02 PM

Did you call Verizon?

Knipps 03-08-2008 12:10 PM

i'm going to try that at some point today, i didn't feel like being on hold for half an hour at 3am
at this point i'm still looking for either the FiOs install CD or my linsys install files

GP99GT 03-08-2008 12:33 PM

noobs...theres no install files

browse to 192.168.1.1

Knipps 03-08-2008 01:28 PM

fine matt but i still can't get this to work
http://fiosfaq.com/content.php?contentid=84

telling me WAN and LAN are the same so it's invalid

also appears i'm now locked out of the fios router.. i try to input the password and it randomly adds/subtracts characters as i'm typing?

That is just the PW masking, it isn't really adding anything.

You should be able to make all of the changes to your Linksys by browsing to the IP Matt mentioned. You don't need to make any configuration changes to Verizon's POS router.

No need for any other software.

That router can be a PITA. I can't seem to connect to my VPN at work with it and I've hacked with just about every setting it's got. Verizon told me jack crap.

Does your wireless crap out with your computer right next to it? Any possible interference in your area?
