i just got a 305 H.O. out of an 86 monte carlo ss. it is ok but just like the 305 in my car now. so i decided to do a 334 stroker kit on my H.O. i also want to put a mild Crane cam in it. what do you's think? is it worth it for a first car motor? does anyone know of a steel 327 crank i could get ahold of for a decent price? thanks

SteveR 03-12-2008 05:13 PM

you can probably find the crank on racingjunk.com or ebay. Not sure of any locally though.

is the 327 crank all i would need? i could buy the kit, but someone told me all i needed was the crank

Featherburner 03-12-2008 07:13 PM

How are you getting 334ci with a 327 crank? Don't you need a 400 crank?

band77one 03-12-2008 07:22 PM

i looked into that kit and my guy told me it was a waste of money, but thats just what he told me. no offense meant. just putting it out there

I would guess probably LESS money. 350 parts are more common so the prices are lower.

i have a good 327 crank ill give ya for 50 bux

There is another thread for a few months back that should have allot of info for you.

But basically, Stroking a 305 is not worth the money unless you must do it for some type of specific CI class.

The small bore of a 305 does not move enough air or allow you to run large valves unless you start clearancing the block and such. Or a street car a 334 with ported HO heads still won't match up to the torque or HP of a 350.

Don't go crazy on the cam if you plan to keep the Elec Q-jet and ECM, they can't handle it.

68camaroguy: is that crank steel?
Pampered-Z: i'm going with an edelbrock performer setup. plus, the motor has a bad cam.

if you put a 327 crank in a 305 you'll end up with a 284,

that site should help you in your query

I have a set of 14914416 heads that are supposed to be great 305 heads, like ~60cc...I'll sell them cheap with new 'Z28' valve springs & new keepers....

bubba428 03-13-2008 08:31 PM

how much we talking bonzo...I think I might need heads

BonzoHansen 03-13-2008 08:47 PM

I dunno, $60 is a round number.

bubba428 03-13-2008 08:52 PM

:shock::shock::shock: really now.........

86FIREBIRD305 03-15-2008 09:40 AM

oh, the guy that told me doesn't know what he is talking about. i might be able to get my uncle to trade motors with me. he has a 355 he uses to moch up turbos.

NJ Torque 03-24-2008 10:47 PM

I have a GMPP cam out of the 350/350 motor, with matching lifters I pulled out of my 350 that was in my Monte, I'll sell it to you for cheap, made good power... went to something bigger.
