Picked up the new dog today
and she is still really shy and afraid of people. She's about 7 months old and came from a litter of pups that were left outside with their mom. All the other people who were interested in adopting her didn't want her because she's so shy. We drove down to Md this morning to pick her up. She's a great looking dog and just needs a permanent home and people to get used to. She likes to find a corner to sit in and she was in the corner of the yard for about 4 hours today. This could take a little time to let her get used to us.

Thats a pretty puppy. Good luck!!

Give her time. I got a rescue a few years back and she was the same. Took about a week to get used to the family. Make sure you bring her around other dogs you trust to get her socialized or she will probably always be a little scared. Ours still doesn't go near people she doesn't know and its been 2 years now. Good luck. She looks like a lab or lab mix. Labs make great pets.

mafia dog, dosent want anyone sneaking up on her

that's a hard life for a dog, being outside all of the time. i believe it's better for them to be part of the family and be inside with the family. my dad used to have a lab-mix tied up on a chain outside. i didn't know better then, but i always felt something was wrong. i mean, he had a house, food, water, etc. but that's more of an imprisonment in my mind. once he brought the dog in the house, it was like he was never tied up on the chain. he learned his place in the family heirarchy and was the happiest dog i've known.
i met a woman a few years back that had two dogs tied up on chains outside. i brought her dogs in the house and it worked out very well. they acclimated to the family environment and protected the house from anyone they didn't know. the dog i have now has always been an inside dog, since he was born. he was very well cared for until i was able to take him away from his mother. he learned who the master of the house is and always listens to me, even when he's giving one of the others a hard time. he is the coolest dog i've ever known. |

She's starting to get used to us and is becoming more friendly and less scared with us. She's still doesn't like other people being around and barks at anybody that walks by the house. We think she's a mix of black lab, some pitbull and maybe some greyhound or whippet. From time to time one ear will just stick up in the air and fold over reminding you of a pitbull.

i hope that choke collar is only temporary, for training purposes. ;)
i've always wanted to get my dog a harness, but never did. he learned on a regular collar. always walks on the same side of me (right side) and always waits for me to walk before he walks. he could really hurt me if he decided to try to take off while on the leash, so i made sure that was the first thing i taught him. i only need to have the leash in my hand for us to go for walks, now. the leash doesn't have to be connected to his collar. i've never met a more obedient dog - even those that've been to school. jackie is very astute - looks as if she's paying attention to something off camera. she's going to be a great guard dog one day. |

My dog's not as obidient as either of yours but enough where i can walk her without a leash, and she won't take off after squirrels ;)
she knows what she can and can't do.. only thing is if she's on the street she'll run up to someone to see if they'll pet her. you'd think she was deprived  |
We don't actually use it as a choke collar. I just wanted a collar I didn't have to worry about getting wet. Our other dog had a choke collar her whole life and we never choked her, I don't like doing that.

Beautiful dog congrats. & you are the man for rescuing a dog.
