How to fill bolt holes in hatch?
 

hey guys, i have an 89 trans am that im looking to get painted soon.. but the rubber aerowing is cracked and warping.. I dont want to spend like $500 to get a fiberglass replacement so I'm thinking about putting a 91-92 iroc highrise spoiler on instead. My question is, how hard is it to fill in the old bolt holes on the hatch? My dads friend has a MIG welder, and can do the work for me but im not sure exactly how the job should be tackled.. any and all suggestions are welcome, and thanks in advance..

to be honest, it'd be easier and cheaper just to get a different hatch peice/lid without the holes or with the highrise spolier holes already there. by the time you weld, and smooth, and do body work, itll much more in depth plus itll always run the risk of cracking if filler is used.

It's not terribly hard but it might be easier to do a different hatch. If you decide to weld them you can try getting a piece of brass behind the hole before you weld as a backup....the brass needs to be able to come out after though. Or if you want a hatch piece with the holes in it for an IROC spoiler shoot me a PM. I've got one in my shop that I'll let go for really cheap.
