A.I.R. on headers.

what is the point of this crap? my buddy has hooker ceramic coated longtubes never used for sale, and when i build my 327 id like to throw these on there, now, do these stupid tubes on my headers actually help reduce emissions or what? cause they dont make longtubes with em. right now mine are shorties ( obviously ) and i would like to not run into any inspection failures or anything

All they do is help to heat up the cat when you first start the car. The faster the cat gets up to operating temp, the faster it can burn off the crap in your exhaust.

Before catalytic converters, the AIR system was used to reduce the concentration of what came out the tailpipes. The AIR setup has been used since 1967 on Z28's. I know they make longtubes with all the emission's fittings for LT1 and LS1 cars. I don't know about 3rd gen cars though.

ive never seen em for 3rd gen cars. so if i put on longtubes without em, it wont hurt emissions will it , cause i can drive it like 20min before i take it to inspection

as long as they dont look under your hood, you should be ok

I put shorties on my car about a year ago and left off all the AIR stuff. Car went through inspection with no problems. They did not look under my hood though, not sure if I got lucky or if they just don't care.

If it passes the emissions testing they wont care at all. Most of the time they dont even look under the hood.
