Camaro spied at Nurburgring

While spy shots of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro are about a dime-a-dozen these days, the latest spy shots of General Motors' upcoming pony car reveal an import step in the car's development process — testing has been moved from the streets to Germany's famed Nürburgring.

Spy photographers spotted the latest prototype arriving at GM's Nürburgring testing facility.

Moreover, the prototype spotted appears to be a performance model — possibly the Z28 but more likely the range-topping SS model. The first dead giveaway that this isn't your typical V6er is that the car is sporting brightly-colored Brembo brakes at all four corners, a treatment normally reserved for performance models.

Another tip-off that this isn't a base model car is the existence of an air intake just before the hood. Images of a base-model production convertible Camaro were leaked earlier this year, and that car was void of any kind of air inlets. Also, the previous-generation SS used a ram-air hood and, as any enthusiast can attest to, a functioning hood scoop is good for a few extra ponies.

It would also make sense that the top performance Camaro would be getting some track time at the Nürburgring as lesser models won't be as highly scrutinized for their performance.

GM is keeping tight lipped about what V8 will be making its way under the hood of the Camaro SS, but sources have indicated the car will get a version of the supercharged LSA motor used in the Cadillac CTS-V and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

Please note: non-production head lights as well as the amber rear tails are required over seas.

You know, with all these pics of the new Camaro showing up everywhere, its hard not to think that its all just a big GM marketing campaign. I dont believe that by chance, every time the Camaro goes anywhere, there happens to be numerous Camaro enthusiasts with digital cameras every time it does anything. "secret spy pics', um right, ok.

BigAls87Z28 04-08-2008 10:29 PM

There was that guy that caught the 3 Camaro's testing in Florida?
And there are ALAWYS people watching the ring for new cars.

It's all these guys: http://www.camaro5.com/

They seem to practically stalk the car.

- Justin

BigAls87Z28 04-08-2008 11:52 PM

Yeah, they do.
Camaro5 got that big break with that one guy in Tampa who spent what seemed like a week with the 3 Camaros. He took pictures with it, talked to engineers, etc etc.
Lutz did say that he wanted people to find them and take pics.

my gf just bought a 3.8 maro at the dealer 2 weeks ago. She got a letter in the mail pushing the New Camaro and she said they were starting around 40 grand.

The only thing they have said as far as pricing goes is that the Camaro will most likely be priced just above the comparable Mustang models.

That letter was prolly from a dealer, not GM.

- Justin

SupermanX24 04-09-2008 09:09 PM

idk, it was a chevy dealer she bought the car at.

Savage_Messiah 04-10-2008 01:13 AM

Yeah, no way in hell that Chevy actually sent the letter. They won't even reveal engines and trims to us, much less pricing.

BigAls87Z28 04-10-2008 08:11 AM

Correct, Camaro will not start at the same price as the Corvette. That would be the worst mistake in the history of Chevy.
That is from the dealer, and they are probably going to charge through the nose for it. Which Chevy dealer?

griftymcgrift 04-10-2008 02:14 PM

is it just me or does that camaro have a tow hitch?!?!

SupermanX24 04-10-2008 04:21 PM

Multi Chevrolet in Union

Yes it's for towing test equipment. Most pre-production test cars have them.

- Justin

BigAls87Z28 04-10-2008 08:24 PM

And its also because soem people coughjeffcough, do tow with the car, so teh car goes through every sort of testing before production.
