Fourth Gen / third gen brakes

Would fourth gen front rotors and pads work with a third gen front brake set up

No, you would have to do an upgrade to 4th gen parts (LS1 front brakes swaps aren't all that uncommon anymore).

I didnt think it would work but I couldnt be sure.... If your gonna do a swap like that , Your honestly better off going with ls1 (98-02) calipers/knuckles/lines... what im doing to my lt1 car :)

you could also do a c5 or c6 upgrade, same amount of work and a little more stopping power.

4th gen spindles will not work in a 3rd gen.

Thirdgen brakes suck and there aren't too many options unfortunetly. You can try PM'ing EBmiller88 on tgo and see if he can help you get a 1LE setup. Or go the route of a LS1 or C4 brake upgrade. I believe Hardcore did the C4 upgrade.

Close....I upgraded to C5 Z06 binders up front. Very nice mod performance and appearance wise.

the biggest issue is that 3rd gens have the wheel bearings inside the whole front rotor assembly, you have to remove the spindle nut to take off the rotors. In 4th gens, they have a seperate wheel hub and rotor setup, where you can pull the rotors just by unbolting the wheel.

ah sweet. ya these brakes suck man. i also need a rear, so i think im just gonna save for a fourth gen rear as well. that way i can do the front brakes, rear disk conversion, and upgraded rear at the same time. im guessing it should be around 400 all together? or am i way off?

If you want you can upgrade to caprice brakes with out changing the spindle. You'll need caprice calipers and caliper mounting brackets, pads and rotors. you'll also need caprice bearings. Now the bearings on the caprice are bigger in total diameter, BUT the inner ring diameter is identical to .001in. this will give you 12in fronts instead of 11in.

um, where do you get your info?? the police package swap works on b/g bodies and also if i'm not mistaken, caprice bolt pattern is 5x5 ....

400 for all of that? waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. the 4th gen rear would probably cost that, then about 600+ for a LS1 front brake setup, 750 or so for a c5. Unless you search and search and find all the parts used for cheeeep.

Yes, with a 'but'...... It involves modifying your spindles, getting brackets, cutting down old rotors to use as hubs. IIRC, you are making your car a drag car, if so, it would really be overkill. Plus you probably need at least 16" rims. If you are builind a drag car, your front brakes with good pads is pretty good.
