seat belt third gen help
 

hey guys i need a little bit of help

a few weeks ago my seatbelt guide broke on the drivers side seat. i finally got the new part and i was trying to put it in today. i need to take the seat belt completely off in order to put the guide on, i have an 87 iroc but the seatbelt guides are the 90-92 styles ones. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Are you talking about the guide that attaches to the top of the seat?

I think he is talking about the piece the fits up on the head liner.. mine is broke as well and it looks like you do have to take the whole damn thing apart to fix it.. provided that is what he is talking about..

yeah it attatches to the seat and it basically guides the seatbelt to your shoulder level..without it it rubs against your neck and its actually quite annoying.

i know that part also that you are talking about and i beleive you would have to take the whole thing apart...but im just wondering how to completely take the seatbelt out...

The guide that attaches to the seat should have a slot in it for the belt to pass through

Yeah thats for the stock ones for a 1987...but I have the ones that are made for 90-92...to me they look better on the seats that i have...i have black leather seats from a 2002 camaro

theres one big bolt into the floor, quite easy to do actually

and i belive its a T50 or T55 torx bolt. if i remember correctly, theres a retractor on the floor by the side of the seat as well. but it should be able to fit through. i know some guide designs split open when not screwed in to allow the seat belt to pass through, but i can't clearly recall this off the top of my head.

Yes i know what you are talking about as far as the split open seat belt guides...i could have gotten those but to me they look outdated...so i bought the 90-92 style ones. thank you for the help.

From what I am told, some 3rd gens use the floor retractor and some don't (later models?) - I think Ted Gerlach was telling me about this once. If you have belts w/no floor retractor, you’re good, just take the seat out, unbolt the belt and pass it through. IIRC, Scooter found that (some?) 4th gen verts might have seat belt escutcheons that have splits to pass a belt through, but regular 4th gen ones don’t (retractor is on the roof)). Perhaps verts use different belts due to no roof, I don’t know. The ones on the 4th gens in my 77 are one solid piece with no split. If you need 4th gen ones with a split, maybe hit Scooter with a PM to see what info he has. Or just cut the ones you have.

is it that star screw on the floor? and even with that there is still that big plastic cover that covers that i have to get the seat belt guide around...wow this should be something easy to fix but its giving me a hard time...
