Any NJ Hockey fans, why don't the Penguins ever verse the Red Wings?

I honestly did not know where to ask this question, as I do not know of any hockey forums, but I know there are a few hockey fans on here. Does anyone know why these two teams never met this season? Or when was the last time they played each other?

I am excited that both of my favorite teams won the first games of the playoffs against the Avalanche and Rangers. It would be awesome to see both of them in the playoffs. Especially since they didn't see much of each other this season.

I am sort of getting back into hockey, so excuse my ignorance for asking the question. Also, I feel bad about NJ losing to NY. But it was Lemieux and Yzerman that made me like both teams. I really hope Detroit wipes the floor with the Avs. I would say the same about Pittsburgh doing that to NY, but I don't want to upset any Rangers fans on here.

I meant to say it would be awesome to see both teams verse each other for the cup. Not in the playoffs, although I am glad both are in the playoffs too.

You very well could see a Wings/Pens final.

I'm predicting a Stars/Pens final provided Turco stays hot.

The teams don't play each other often because they're in different conferences and a large majority of a team's games are within it's own conference. I remember watching a few games this season and the commentators mentioned the teams (East & West conferences) hadn't seen each other in ~3 years. I don't think it's so much a matter of "luck" but how they're scheduled in.

redbanditZ28 04-26-2008 03:03 PM

Thanks for the replies. One of the hardest things about liking the Red Wings is never being able to catch a game in person with them. I think the closest they came to NJ this whole season was in Boston. I sometimes wonder how the season would fair for everyone if the Western and Eastern conferences met more often.

I got to see a Pittsburgh game last season when the Devils were still at the Meadowlands or Izod Center, but since they moved to Newark, I am not too crazy about driving in to see a game. Has anyone driven there to see a game yet? I know a lot of people take the train in. If you took the train in, how much is a ticket to and from I guess either New Brunswick or Edison/Metuchen?

I would love to see either the Red Wings or the Penguins win the cup, but it would be so cool to see both verse each other for it.

Each of the greater NYC area teams makes "west coast runs" each year, but don't get to play all the western conference teams each year. This year for the Devils it was Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. They hadn't played Vancouver, in Van, in many years. Its all in the scheduling.

I am just happy that the Red Wings and Penguins are both 2 ahead. I realize that can change though. Especially since both teams first two games were at home. I am crossing my fingers to see both verse each other for the cup.

Has Detroit and Pittsburgh ever faced off in NHL history in either the playoffs or for the cup?
Like I said, I am getting back into hockey and I don't know much about Hockey's history.

shane27 04-28-2008 10:38 AM

quick fact: penguins are 0-4 at MSG this year

penguins have been around for ~30 years as opposed to Detriots 80+....dont believe they ever faced each other in finals but i could be wrong.

Cheap shots don't make you a better fan.

I honestly hope the Rangers make it to the cup this year. Since the Devils are out, root for the local team.

alamantia 04-28-2008 03:42 PM

unless the rangers can play with more intencity than a florida based mite hockey team you prolly will see Pit face Detriot in a few weeks.

redbanditZ28 04-29-2008 11:50 PM

Red Wings and Penguins 3 ahead. I hope they keep the momentum.

chemicalstylez 04-30-2008 03:50 PM

Flyers = Cinderella team... everyone hates them, refs hate them, and they still win.... best watch out.

Even if they get past the refs and the Habs the Pens are going to be tough, they CAN beat the Pens but I don't see it happening.

Then again the Flyers need to get past the Habs first, lol.

Did you like the boarding call on Richards when the Habs player didn't even touch the boards?

lol yea I was at the game...call was terrible. Ashame, series should of been a sweep if the refs didn't hand game 1 to the Habs on a silver platter. Pens have the "cindy rules" on their side, thats tough to play against. 5 on 5 their terrible, they rely soley on their power play.

redbanditZ28 05-01-2008 02:44 AM

I swear when I was watching the Detroit Colorado game last night at the Pepsi center, the Ref seemed really biased. Granted Detroit did do legitimate violations, but still, the crowd was as harsh as the refs were. Its just a little reassuring when a team has 2 up and win their 3rd in an away game. Lets see what today brings for both the Pengs and Wings.
I can't remember off hand. How has Philly faired against Pittsburgh this season when they've met?

Detroit may have a little trouble with Dallas if it comes to that.

Yeah but unless they tighten up their shots allowed stat they won't last against the Pens. They can't expect Biron to bail them out EVERY game like he has in this series.

shane27 05-01-2008 09:07 PM

sweep nothing rangers back in it!!

ummm...down 3-1 going back to Pittsburgh is not back in it...IF they win game 5,then we'll see...

Frosty 05-01-2008 09:12 PM

I'm rooting for the Rangers(God I feel dirty for saying that). I want both teams to beat the hell out of each other until Game 7
