my friend who built it deleted the AC, and machined kind of a box there out of aluminum, the wires going into it is for the resistor for the fans inside of the car

I've seen the brace before too. I think in a regular mid 80's z28 also.

DaSkinnyGuy 04-28-2008 06:02 PM

hey thats mine give it to me I need it back

BigAls87Z28 04-28-2008 07:34 PM

Nope, my 87 had that too. I remember moving it to get the header in there. I said to myself "what the f is this thing, and what exactly is this supporting?"
I think I still have it somewhere.

From about 1989-1992 most Trans Am's, Formula's and GTA's had that piece AND ALSO a bar that fit into the hole on the passenger side lower hood support. This bar attached itself to a hole that was located on the firewall lip just to the right of the coil. I believe it was a fender support brace and that other piece was to keep the strut tower from lifting up under hard acceleration and was attached to the frame below. My guess it was some sort of strut tower support system. Now my Formula did not have this part, but mostly every other GTA from that time period had it, as did most IROC Camaro's. It took a long time to locate one(the fender brace bar)because most people do not know what it is or what to call it. I never got that piece(in the picture)because it would be impossible to get it bolted into the frame without removing the engine!

bubba428 04-29-2008 08:54 AM

my car has it and both my buddies 87s have it..

FBODS4EVER 04-29-2008 08:23 PM
