Sway bar - not attached to my car???
Went to install my rear shocks and noticed the driver side of the rear sway bar is not attached to the car, no bushings and that bar or bolt the goes vertically connecting the mount to the sway bar is gone. Not sure how long ive been riding like that but want to fix it asap. I know i can get the stock bushing at a parts store but will they have the long bolt that connects it? not even sure what its called

Take ONE bolt out of the other side and go to NAPA and see if they have one that matches it. If not, I'am sure a GM Chevrolet Dealer will have one in stock.

sway bar end links....is the other one rusted bad? i'd do both and check the bushings out while you are there.

the bolt and bushings is called a sway bar link kit and its about $11

so ithink what im looking for now are called bump stops. but i cant find them anywhere, any ideas? |

got it back on and all is great. I was prob running with it dissconnected for months now because all of the sudden my car handles awsome. Backend always felt loose to me before today. Also installed new KYB AGX shocks on the rear and i love em. Also i threw on a STB a few days ago and that make a world of a difference alone. Smooth acceleration through the gears. Fronts KYB's come in on wends and hopefully my UMI 3pt SFC come tomorrow. I hope to be riding nice this time next sunday.

glad to hear good progress. those bump stops are crap. both my cars had rotted/missing ones. any thoughts on your rims yet?

http://www.teamatd.com/forsale/camaro/index.asp I think ill go 18's all around not the 20" 19" combo they have even though it looks ok to me this is my DD and those low profile tires make ame nervous. but i still think your rims would look killer on my ride. Im gona post my chrome SS 10spokes on craigslist very soon, not looking for much as they are pitting but still look great from a few feet away and on the road. |
i wouldn't do anything more than 18's. it gets to be a little much and yeah, potholes and the such

its a 3.4L V6 im sure hes smart enough to know its not fast. hes just lookin for things to make it look better

You can get rubber replacement bumpstops from Moog through Rockauto.com. I would NOT use polyurethane for bumpstops.

In theory bump stops are progressive, both by nature of the rubber material and the shape, which softens the blow. At least that is my understanding. Poly ones have no give and come on more or less all at once. Cars do funny things when you nail the bumpstop.
Now in the rear, esp for straight-line, there may be advantages to that, not sure. My education on that is more related to the front. This reminds me, I need to get new front bump stops for the Z. |
Bumpstops are not suspension components, that's why... they are meant to soften the impact of bottoming out the suspension to prevent damage. Polyurethane bumpstops are far too stiff for that application. In theory, an infinitely progressive spring the height of the bumpstop would be ideal, but rubber works just as well.
