Will my APS Twin Turbo system keep if kept in the box?
 

A while back I bought a APS Twin Turbo system for my 98 Z28 and I had the intentions of installing it a few months down the road, but then a few things changed and now I may not get around to installing it until 2-3 years from now.

I was just wondering, if there usually anything that may go bad with the system if I don't use it until then?

Graduate school, and various other certification programs are what I am going for instead of saving up for the install. I didn't plan this when I bought the system, but I figure I'd rather work a good paying comfortable job instead of fixing my car up and working a dead end job.
But I do plan on restarting my plans for the turbo build again once I finish grad school. Fortunately the whole Masters program where I am going is only $15K for the whole thing.

I'd say as long as you keep that bad boy dry and covered it would be OK. You are more than welcome to store it over my house, but I wouldn't be responsible if I somehow found a way to use it on one of my vehicles...:mrgreen:

Thats good to know. It is still sealed in the 2 big boxes it came in and the boxes are inside my house, but near a door opening. But its not like water gets into the door opening. So I am hoping the system will last until 2 years from now. I was more worried about if there are any rubber seals that may dry out or anything.

As far as storing it at someone's hpuse, you are not the first to say that to me. lol. Whenever I tell people I have this system, even my mechanic joked about storing it at his place and maybe using it on his corvette. I was lucky that I got the system at its introductory price and saved something like 2-3 grand on it. It knew it was a sweet deal at $5,400.

I am still up in the air about whether to get a new 370 ci or 402 ci fully built forged engine or just forge the internals on my stock 98 LS1 engine which has 45,000 miles on it. But I got time to make that decision.

Sounds to me like you are in a good space w/ storing your parts. I'd have no worries about anything happening to them for the time you need to put them to use. And I'd say you'll be making some MAD power with whatever engine combo you decide to use! 8-)

go with the 402ci or 408ci. Boost loves lerger cubes. but then again, it's cheaper to rebuild your current motor. my setup's a little larger than factory cubes just because i have oversizesd pistons but my next build with involve a 8.5:1cr 408ci. read up on ls1tech's forged induction forum to learn new setups and help answer your questions.

or a .030 overbore for 406 cubic inches (:mrgreen:). keep the compression ratio low and you'll be able to crank the psi up. then you can add nitrous oxide on top of that. :twisted:

back to the OP, they store them on their shelves for gods know how long before they ship them, so if you keep them in the original boxes then you will not have a problem. keep them dry, away from direct sunlight, all of that that you would do normally with anything that is going to be stored for a long time, and you'll be fine.

which turbos did you get? if you go 400+ ci, the base system turbos won't work as efficiently as if you were stockish cubes. that's why they sell the "extreme performance" kit.

...and i will gladly mock up the system on my car to make sure it fits yours when you are ready to install. i'll even throw the turbo bearings through a few heat cycles to make sure they hold up.

yeah, i saw when theyw ere offering that deal on ls1tech. i happened to be down in florida at the PRI show, and was offered an even better deal. One day I'll take them up on it, but you wouldn't believe how low they can go :shock:

Nah, I got the regular system for stock LS1 engines. With the rising costs of gas, I am now debating on knocking my plans down a little and not going insane like I was initially planning. I still want a fast car, but nothing too extreme. There are also future concerns worth saving up for. Not to say that I am not going to do the engine build and go the whole nine yards with system, better brakes, a new rear, and trans and all that jazz, but I am just not going to go crazy by getting the most expensive types of everything, when I can make due on capable car parts. Don't misunderstand me that I am not going to put the right money into the project, I am, but I am just saying I don't need to buy the most expensive brand names or versions of things out there.

Also, 79CamaroDiva, how low can they go? Did they offer you a good price as a promo at the PRI show? I am happy enough anyway with what I paid, I still made out better than most who bought the system after the introductory sale on LS1tech. At least I think. But I am not greedy. The system and the parts were worth the price I paid.

they were offering a resellers price at PRI, even if you only bought one. i can't mention the price because just about everything there was significantly discounted from all manufacturers, but it was low enough that it would be possible for a reseller to sell for the price that you received, though no one would with how complete the kits are. yes, you got a fantastic deal for the kit, but after all the R&D is done on it, the only thing it costs them is materials, and since they make their own, it ends up costing them almost nothing. But like everything else, if they sold for too cheap, a) they wouldnt have anything left over for MORE R&D on future products and b) people wouldn't htink it was as good a kit as it is.
