Head and intake porting?
 

Any one here know how to port heads and an intake? Id like to port and polish my heads and intake before I install them again. Just wondering if someone here wanted some side work before I take it to a local shop.

the term "port and polish" is so played out anymore its ridiculous. Do you actually know what is going to be getting done to the heads?

Porting of heads isnt something you (not you, directly) do in your backyard (although im sure theres 1,476 people who have done it and it ran 10s)...

I'm pretty sure the average guy on here doesnt own a machine shop and a flow bench...i would definitely say taking it to a specialty shop is the way to go...

most stock heads can support more power than you think - down nozzle injection can be greatly supported buy polishing the ports, - but in the real world for a motor with fast rizing torque you want a port that is rough to the eye not so much to the touch - back cutting the valves will get you more power and better fuel ecomy than any of the commic book terms you have been told -- jz

Iv eben reading about porting. You can port and polish them if you choose to go that far with polishing them too, in your garage with 12 hours of time and a dremel type tool that goes up to 12,000 rpms.
I know of plenty of guys who port heads on the side for people(in other states tho) and back in the day before all this great technology they ported heads them self too. Just wondering if anyone here had experience doing this at home and wanted some cash.
I did find a DIY kit online for 50 bucks i might try that I dont really know.

Porting your own heads sucks a whole lot....boring, tedious, gotta be real careful, dirty...etc

On the bright side, metal boogers are good projectiles

p.s. having a shop do them may cost you more than a good set of aftermarket heads

How do you plan on making sure the runner volume and flow numbers stay symetrical without a burret and flow bench?

Yea im just not going to do them :( it was a bad idea.

It's not a bad idea to have a pro do them, just not doing them yourself.

I wont have the money to have them done pro style for a few more weeks. Im planning on re-installing the head gaskets on the 22nd so ill just hold off on them.
