Oil Sensor
 

The guy I bought my car from hurt the oil sensor that screws into the oil pan. I would like to know if the nut on the inside of the oil pan is welded in place. I would just like to know so that I don't unscrew the sensor and then hear the nut drop into the pan.

Is the sensor broke or the fastener for it? If its just the sensor, cut the leads and loop it.

Not sure I understand the question. The "nut" is just for mounting the sensor, it is not the actual sensor. The sensor snaps into it (inside the nut). If the sensor is bad, you just replace the sensor, no need to remove or do anything with the nut. If you look at the nut, there is a slot in one side, slide a small screwdriver in there to release the sensor.

I'm not near my car, I can't verify this, I think the nut just screws into the pan, the pan is threaded, there isn't any thing inside the pan.

This isn't the pressure gauge it is the oil level detector that is on the oil pan. Mine is bad so the oil level light on my dash stays on....Won't pass inspection.

I went and was told by the old guy at the inspection station "I can't pass your car if you have any lights on".

That is what I am talking about, the oil level sensor snaps inside that big nut. So you don't need to worry about the nut, just buy a new sensor. The nut is just the mount.

how do u get that nut off the sensor, i have tried the past two times i did my oil and i cant for the life of me get that sensor off the sut. "It snaps inside"?

The large metal nut is solid with no little slot that i can see. Atleast not on the outside, slide a screw driver in between the nut and the sensor? im lost lol

Check where the sensor goes into the nut, you can release it with a small screw driver.

are you 100% positive about that? Pictures of a replacement part usually include the nut as part of the molded body.

you might be thinking that the lock tab for the connector fits into the body, and has a opening to release that tab.

YES, jwscb thats the replacement part that i picked up. I have no idea how to replace it. So is that the correct part and if so how do i go about using it?

You might be right, I'm under the impression he's taking about the clip connector being damaged.

you should just simply unscrew it. I think i used a large adjustable wrench, I probably didn't have the right size. It shouldn't be too tight, nor should you crank it down, as it's plastic threads.

if you have a full crankcase, it might be a good idea to drain a quart or 2 out, or you can just let it dribble out of the hole.

I can eaisly unscrew the large bolt of the old oil level sensor from the side of the pan. I bought the replacement on like the pic above.

does the large bolt of the old on slide off somehow to see a clip connector underneath or what
