Code 22

ok guys i have an SES light on. i pulled the codes and got a code 22. i looked it up and i got this "TPS voltage was under 0.2 volts for 3 seconds when the engine was running". bascily it means from what i was told that the TPS is under the .2 volts that it should be. now i check it out and thats deff the problem, i used a volts meter and the wires are under .2 my question is how do i fix this, i dunno if its a switch or a relay or a fuse or what i got most of the problum slove just need to know how to fix.

Thanks

Oh BTW its my 88 iroc 350 tpi

the throttle position sensor had low voltage? maybe its a bad tps?

ZeroCool8891 06-30-2008 07:12 PM

i replaced it with a bradn new because that was the 1st thing i was told, im getting the same code.

sweetbmxrider 06-30-2008 07:15 PM

brand new or rebuilt? check the voltage. could be the computer

ZeroCool8891 06-30-2008 07:17 PM

brand new, that computer is also brand new, rite from GM themselfs, but how do i check the computer try another or something.

sweetbmxrider 06-30-2008 07:41 PM

nah you should be able to measure the voltage but i don't know off hand what it should be

IROCdan330 06-30-2008 07:45 PM

why dont you check power/ground directly at the sensor, then output from the computer? try to diag from there based on your results.

one should be 5 volt power, one should be ground, one should be signal aka variable voltage dependant on throttle position.

.49-.51 is just about perfect for idle.

4.5 is generally WOT.

These sensors are adjustable...perhaps you moved it too far one way. try and adjust it to .51v with the throttle closed...

ok cool ill try all of that.

Thanks guys

sweetbmxrider 06-30-2008 09:11 PM

yeah i wasn't sure if the voltages were different for tpi for some reason

ZeroCool8891 07-05-2008 04:53 PM

ok i tried everything that was told to do, i ask a few people at work they might have said a wire was bad i checked them all they where all fine, the tps is brand new, the computer is brand new, everythins is where it should but i still get that code. im all out of ideas anything else that can be done.

Slow96LT1 07-08-2008 12:14 PM

make sure there a 5 volt ref to the sensor with the sensor disconected and the key on normaly the gray i think

ZeroCool8891 07-13-2008 12:13 PM

well i found out what the prob is, sice my car sat for about 10+ year before i got it, and i drove it with the org drivetrain in it and change everything over. so me and a few friends might beleace its something in the engine harness becasue i have other issues, so im looking out for a cheap harness witch asctully i might have found, and sice my camaro is an late 88 model means, i have vats and no 9th injector and 88 was the last year of having no vats and a 9th injector, so i would need one fron an 89 witch i have found, i will try it over and replace some sesners witch need to get replaced anyway. ill keep you all posted on the progress.
