header wrap quick question..
after doing some work bleeding the slave cylinder out i got alot of brake fluid on parts of the header wrap. when i start it up it would be fine for 2 minutes...then start smoking like crazy, and smells like mushrooms.
ive heard myths that any fluid on header wrap could cause a fire..not sure though. if not, what can i do to make the smoking go away? |
Yes, it can. So can motor oil. Are your headers coated? Is the header wrap treated to protect against moisture? If the answer is no, remove it.
|
let it burn off lol idk, ive never heard of it catching on fire but i have heard of it making your headers rust alot faster if you drive it when its wet out.
|
any good alternatives to header wrap then? i want something on my headers they get too hott but i would think its risky to have something that could possibly ignite on there...
|
ceramic coating is awesome. my headers cool off soooo quick. try like a gum cutter/carb cleaner/ brake cleaner maybe?
|
is ceramic coating expensive? i may just take off the wrap and try to put new wrap on but i hear its a real pain in the ass...plus who knows if the problem will happen again with the new wrap. and i hear there is something that you can put around the headers that you can like..velcro in

I'm not sure the going rate of coatings now a days, but I would say get them coated now instead of using header wrap.
call up the peeps at www.jet-hot.com and ask them to give you a quote for the sterling 1300 |
header rap does not go on fire the stuff spilled on it does and hosing it off with water will fix it - just wash it with simple green and water and let it run till its stops smoaking from the cleaner and water -- jz
