gas prices = death to trucks and SUVs

Just read that because of gas prices and an ever slowing economy, trucks and SUVs arent selling at all. Comparing the three US automakers, Ford announced that it will be cutting back production of Super Duty trucks as well as SUVs by as much as 60%. Dodge said they'll be shutting down several production plants, as well as trying to sell off the '08's that are still on dealer lots for $13,000 under sticker, which are right now averaging 109 days on dealer lots. Chevy announced that they'll be closing four truck plants, including the Oshawa Truck Assembly Plant in Canada which has been building Chevy trucks since 1965.

sounds like the makings of being able to get some very rare trucks for a very good price in the next year or so, then holding on to it.

Looks like I'll be holding onto my dad's pickup for a while

...and when gas prices drop..and they eventually will they'll be scrambling to restart production lol

nah. but expect the "crossover" (read: station wagon type things) are still going strong, especially with alternative fuels. vehicles like the new chevy acadia?, jeep compass, nissan (that only gets 27 highway) and toyota crossovers. it doesn't say hybrid, but i am sure they will find a way to make them so.

My boss is looking at an '08 Silverado 1500 with the 4.3 v6 and a nice collection of options for only $15k to replace his '96 Bronco. He figures he can prolly work at least another grand off of that price, and get better mileage (and a much better truck ;) ) driving from Florence to Plainsboro everyday.

Hmmmm...maybe I can talk the wife into letting me buy a brand-new tow rig if the prices drop enough...

i think its all just a big scam. its not like letting these trucks go for 13k under sticker is really going to hurt them. theyre just not going to make as much on each one but will certainly sell more
