Pre-WWII Color Photos

Before US involvement. A period in America usually seen in black & white...quite amazing to see it in color for the first time.

You're welcome everyone. When I look at those photos, I automatically think of John Steinbeck novels. Reminds you of the innocence we once had.

I also found this thread that has TONS of old pictures of NYC, around 45 pages. You can literally spend all day here:

old Ebbets Filed, where the Brooklyn Dodgers played.
http://66.230.220.70/images/post/ny/112.jpg

the Polo Grounds, where the New York Giants played (the baseball team). Also where the Yankees played before they built Yankee Stadium. These were the days of the stadiums when they had 78,000 seats, and 500 foot outfields. None of this new sissy crap of 48,000 seats and 360 foot outfields. Really makes Babe Ruth's 714 home runs a lot more impressive. The Giants threw the Yankees out of the Polo Grounds because more fans were showing up for the Yankees than for the Giants in their own stadium, so, the Yankees built their new stadium right across the water there and you could see and hear Yankee Stadium from the Polo Grounds.

old Yankee Stadium before they remodeled it in the mid 70s. It is a true shame that it will meet the same fate as both Ebbets Field and the Polo Grounds just eight weeks from now :(

the old West Side El. I used to live not too far from the old highway. Here it is abandoned in the late 80s

I remember as a kid my mom took me to the last one in the city. That was so much fun. A few months later I saw on the news that it was closing :(
