It was a great time! There were a lot of military and civilian performers. There were a lot of highlights, including the Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet coming very close to breaking the sound barrier. Someone posted a pic of it up online;

Another story was one that the announcer told during a very cool ParaRescue demonstration. What they did was six ParaRescue jumpers jumped out of a C-130 at only about 3000' above the water at most, then opened their chutes, and landed IN THE OCEAN, got out of their chutes, and an HH-60G helo came around and picked them up out of the water. Here's a pic of one of the jumpers right after jumping out of the plane;
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...8/5e5f29b8.jpg What the announcer said was that, if you remember the movie A Perfect Storm, it was based on a true story about a fishing ship that was stranded at sea in a violent storm. The Coast Guard was looking for them, and after a while, a ParaRescue helicopter went out to look for them. If you remember, the ParaRescue helicopter tried to refuel in air but couldn't, and they had to jump out and ditch the helicopter in the ocean and try and survive, alone, at night, in the middle of a violent storm, by treading water. Four of the five PJs were rescued, and one of the six that jumped out of the C-130 today, was one of those four survivors. Here they are before landing in the water; http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...8/72169e9f.jpg And here's their HH-60G helo coming to pick them up http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...8/d5c42ce3.jpg That was a very impressive moment. |
yeah, they also did a refueling demonstration. I think I got a pic of that somewhere too

Holy crap, thats so cool!
Its really not helping me stick with what MOS i was going to choose! |
I haven't been to an air show in a looooong time. Great pics. Thanks for posting!

i wanted to go so bad, hopefully i'll be able to make it to Millville's wing and wheels
|
Awesome pics! Airshows are definitely FTW.
I grew up in Jackson about 5 miles from Lakehurst Naval Air Station, and used to have the Blue Angels flying over my house for a week every summer. I would hang out at the farm next door and see everything perfectly from their fields. |
i love mustangs

Nice pictures, I like the third and fourth from the bottom. Time for a new desktop wallpaper.
I just got a flier in the mail for the Millville thing next month. I'm gonna try and make it down there, don't remember the last time I went to an air show. |

Can't wait for family and friends day. They're probably gonna do an airpower demonstration for it, too. Break teh sound barrier, drop a couple of 2000 pound bombs in the water, etc. should be a fun day. |

how fast is that camera that it gets the rotors to be that clear?
|
on the helicopters I couldn't slow it down enough to get a blur! (and i was trying, thats the best i got) :lol: the plane rotors were stopped at 1/8000 and 1/4000, the helicopters i got to barely blur around 1/80th but it was very difficult go shoot that slow on such a bright day.
|
it looks cooler with them stopped
|
Very cool shots, and that's some serious zoom!
|
Pics look good, I would have loved to go see the Thunderbirds and all those other awesome jets!
|
Here's a cool pic the pilot of one of the P-51D Mustangs posted online. This is him flying behind the boardwalk during the show, taking a pic of the airshow from above and behind. The white trails in the air are the smoke trails of the planes that were performing.
