Got popped in NY State

Two of my friends & I got popped for speeding on our bikes in New York state today and were ticketed for "Illegal Speedometer" since the cop didn't actually clock us. The cop was pretty cool and let us go with this fine. I know it doesn't carry any points, but does anyone have an idea how much it'll cost before they send me the bill?

lol never even heard of it.......

It might not carry any points in NY, but it might transfer as 2 points to NJ.

NY is part of the same pack I believe.

I think that only applies to moving viloations ie points in the state of infraction.

Pennsylvania and your home state of New Jersey are part of Compacts that allow their licensing agencies to exchange information regarding moving violations. When you receive a citation out of state, your home state is informed and if you do not take care of the fines or other penalties related to the violation, your home state will also be notified.

Typically, New Jersey will make an out of state violation part of your NJ driving record and assess 2 points. Your violation would typically be worth 5 points in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. PA finds going 45 mph over the posted speed limit to be excessive speeding and thus assigns extra penalties for it.

He didn't get a speeding ticket.

maroman88 08-22-2008 10:01 AM

any one have a list of wat states are in the pact?

ar0ck 08-22-2008 10:02 AM

Guys its not a speeding ticket, its a no point fine just like a no plate ticket. The cop was just giving us a warning since he didn't actually clock our speed. Just curious if anyone knew how much it is.

NY State is strange, the cop prints out a summons in his car, not a paper ticket like we get in NJ. You plead guilty/not guilty and mail it in, then they mail you the bill.

i think he made that up:lol:
at least he was cool and you did'nt get a points ticket.

My gf was speeding in PA and got a pulled over. The cop was nice and instead of a speeding ticket he gave her a "failure to obey a road sign" or something along those lines. He said it carries no points... in PA. She has 2 points on her DL license now, because DMV said that any ticket she gets in PA points or not, transfers as 2 points.

that sucks.

As far as I know the NJ is pacted with PA, NY, DE, and recently MD. I remember getting a speeding ticket outside of Baltimore and no points came my way like 2 years ago...then my brother just got one in MD and the points transfered. Don't know of any other states, but those are 100%.

I know if I ever get pulled over in Nevada I have a warrent for an unpaid ticket of 97 in a 75 LOL. Renta car racing baby... my Taurus governed and i got caught LOL.

heavy_chevy29 08-24-2008 09:05 AM

i was one of the guys with alex. the ticket is "unlawful speedometer". the cop said that it is just a fine. wont effect anything in jersey or new york. he was cool towards the end but wasnt very happy at first. all i have to say is thank god for PBA cards

grandkodiak 08-24-2008 01:16 PM

ha id delay a court date until statute of limitations ended on careless then bring it to court and say whats wrong with my speedo and get out of fines and tickets.

heavy_chevy29 08-24-2008 04:26 PM

there is no court date. its just a fine. i have no problem paying it. he coulda done alot worse. besides its probabaly like 40-60 bucks
