SteveR 09-06-2008 01:48 AM

I'm wondering if they are going to call the new Camaro an F-Body.

bubba428 09-06-2008 01:50 AM

thats the coolest name Ive ever heard. Can you see it?!

Your eyes widen as you walk through the dealership doors, almost in slow motion, you can hear the faint sounds of music playing in the background, as the crowd seems to part as you make your way to the center of the showroom floor, like a little kid, you grin as the sheen off the fresh paint sparkles in your eyes, as the salesman greats you, he asks, "would you like to sit in the new 2010 big ben and rubber duck!"

bubba428 09-06-2008 02:10 AM

hahaha CONVOY FTW!!!!!!!

79CamaroDiva 09-06-2008 02:23 AM

As far as i know (and maybe al can correct me) F is just a letter designation for the platform that the car is based off of, sort of like Monte Carlo and GN's are G-Bodys, Sunfire and Cavalier are J-Bodys, Mopar had A, B, C, and E-Bodies, etc.. I think they ran out of letters and are now using latin or greek letters (ie, Zeta)

Actually its just you. Us, humans, know why the sky is blue.

Quote:

The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air.

However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue. As you look closer to the horizon, the sky appears much paler in color. To reach you, the scattered blue light must pass through more air. Some of it gets scattered away again in other directions. Less blue light reaches your eyes. The color of the sky near the horizon appears paler or white.
Ocean? wtf are you smoking?

/As you were...

Fire_Chicken92 09-06-2008 08:41 AM

so what are they gonna use wehn they run out of greek letters? lol i guess we are all gonna have to take a crash course in arabic to pronounce the next set..

BigAls87Z28 09-06-2008 10:17 AM

Thank you Melissa.

F is just a randon designation for the chassis that the Camaro and Firebird were built on. If you know GM history, chassis had letter designations, and that went on till about 2004 when we first saw Sigma and Epsilon. Sigma is under the CTS, STS and SRX while Epsilon is part of the new Greek naming system. Epsilon platform underpins the Chevy Malibu, Pontiac G6, Saturn Aura, and a special Euro version is built fo rthe 9-3 and another version sits under the now dead Opel/Vauxhaul Vectra.
The old letter system was just a matter putting letters next to chassis.
A body - Chevelle, El Camino, Lemans/GTO, Cutlass/442, Skylark/GS
B body - Full size chassis, Caprice, Impala, Bonni, other large sedans
F body - Camaro and Firebird
X body - Nova and other "compacts"
G body was a RWD platform for the 80s then turned into a FWD full size sedan platform in the 90's to present (Caddy DTS and Buick Lucerne)
W body - Chevy Impala, Monte Carlo, LaCrosse, and former Grand Prix
Y Body - Corvette/Z06/ZR1 and XLR/XLR-V

Since im on a roll and i dont want to deal with teh 400 customers in front of me, Ill keep going.
Modern platforms are now in there second generation.
Gamma- upcoming Aveo and new Saturn Corsa
Delta- Cobalt, HHR and G5
Delta 2- new Chevy Cruze and Volt, Saturn Astra, Saab 9-3, G5 replacement, 7 seater HHR replacement.
Epsilon - listed above
Epsilon 2- Next gen Malibu, new Buick LaX, G6 replacement, next gen Saab 9-5.
Zeta/VE- Camaro, G8 V6/GT/ST/GXP

Then you have the number platforms for trucks, usually start with GMT. GMT900 is the new designation for the new trucks and suv's.
But there are also some Greek chassis for crossovers and compact SUV's.
Theta is the platform for the current Equinox, old Vue, and Pontiac Torrent
New Vue is an updated European model
Theta has jumped into 3 versions
Theta Epsilon - Vue
Theta 2 - upcoming Equinox and GMC Terrain
Theta Lux- upcoming Caddy SRX and Saab 9-4x.

Then there are the Lambda crossover vans, Traverse, Acadia, Outlook and Enclave.

Thaaat should cover it.

No longer called G-body once it went FWD though, it was W-body from there. grand prix, monte carlo, bonneville, regal

WildBillyT 09-06-2008 11:05 AM

The F itself doesn't mean anything. Just like an RPO code.

There is a G body. G body is a large FWD platform that, like I said...sits under the Caddy DTS and Buick Lucerne. It also sat under the Bonnie.

W body replaced the Grand Prix, Monte, and all the car I listed above.
