So how big does a tree branch need to be

to knock you out? I've tried this a couple of times now and every time I'm trimming back some tree branches, one has to hit me in the head. The last time, I was up in the tree and it bounced off my head and then knocked over the ladder so I had to jump out of the tree to get down. Yesterday, it kicked back and hit me in the head and knocked me off the ladder. It was a 6" diameter branch, but it only left a big lump on my head! :-x How big do they need to be to actually knock you out?

I guess you have a thick skull? I had the same thing happen to me at work, big ass engine hatch nailed me on the back of the head, my boss figured I wouldn't be getting up, but I did, no passing out...

WildBillyT 11-03-2008 08:04 AM

Depends how fast the branch is moving at the time.

LTb1ow 11-03-2008 08:07 AM

And where it hit you too.

That explains a lot about ya! :p

Nooooo! Trees are our friends. They just don't always like getting a haircut. Now I do have a ghetto tree that I think we're going to need to cut down, but it's too close to the power lines for me to mess around with it.

Goddam hippy!!!

We actually have a dead tree in our back yard that has to come down. Looks like Justin is going to have a whole, 75 year old oak tree for the fire pit in the spring :)

I think if you explain how it got on the treadmill your question will be alot easier to answer :-P

I gotta say it ....DUMBA$$ !!! You TRYING to kill yourself ? :?:

If you're trying to kill yourself, keep at it. Seems whatever you've been doing as far as trimming isn't working if you keep getting hit or end up almost killing yourself. I think you're smarter than that.

Either think it out just a bit more, or hire a tree company. I'm sure the tree guys will do the work, clean up and leave your head a lil better than if you did it yourself.....you might end up like this next time....

(the pix anyways)

P.S. (do like the tree guys do and use rope to secure the branch if you're not sure)

Do they make chainsaws with rotary dials?

When you consider technology and Jeff, think Fred Flintstone.

Jeff, are you polish? Try standing on the branch when youre cutting it instead of standing under it!

jeeze, for someone who just razzed me about cutting trees. Hypocrite!

a few years back, I was hit in the back of my head be a 1.5" or so branch that fell a good 30 ft before it hit me, it dropped me to my knees and i couldn't see straight for a couple minutes but it was still conscious. Like said above, the speed has a lot do do with being knocked unconscious, not just he size od the branch.

How in the world did you manage to drop a 6" diameter branch on yourself?

BonzoHansen 11-03-2008 08:40 PM

The tree he was hugging smacked him for fondling it.

It was only about 3-4 feet away and I was back away from it to the side. But it kicked back at an angle. But I didn't cut down the whole tree, just about 40-50 branches and only 1 of them hit me. So my percentage was pretty good. I know I've hit my head much harder while working under the cars so this was just another hit. You kids need to learn how to build up your skull strength! All this whining and complaining does nothing for your noggin!

Savage_Messiah 11-04-2008 01:12 AM

The trees are taking it easy on you because you hug them

Dude, I don't mean to laugh at you but I have tears in my eyes. That was hysterical, sorry it keeps happening to you.
