AHHHHHHHHHHHH LOOK AT ALL THE CAMAROS!
Ohhh they are SEXY! Eff yo Challenger, Genny Coupe, Mustang, or anything else. That LS7 car looks amazing.

NJSPEEDER 11-03-2008 09:17 AM

That drag race was fun to watch. The 599 is a fairly heavy car compared to the rest of the group and still held it's own nicely. You could tell when the cars got to full grip in the middle of second gear, they all just started walking the GTR bad.

I am honestly surprised that the 599, giving up a few hundred pounds to the Corvette, was able to hang in that well.

Ehh, even in second place and at a higher price tag, I think the 599 is sexier than the ZR1.

Camaro GS Racecar Concept: One of the most iconic cars of the legendary Trans Am road racing series was the distinctive blue-and-yellow Camaro of Mark Donohue. He was a dominant racer in the series and drove his #6 1969 model to the series championship that year.

With the assistance of GM’s High Performance Vehicle Operations, North Carolina-based Riley Technologies re-created the look and feel of that standout racecar with a tribute that looks, sounds and drives like it’s ready to do battle with its contemporary pony car competitors. In fact, the heritage-inspired racer is more than concept. It is an early prototype for the Grand Am Koni Challenge GS racing class. Racecars like the GS Concept are offered and manufactured by Riley Technologies for the 2009 Grand-Am season.

The GS Concept features the race-ready suspension, reinforced chassis and drivetrain conform to the specifications required of racecars certified for the series. In fact, this racecar has already logged many hours on the racetrack as Riley team members worked to dial-in the chassis and powertrain. Additional features include:

Seam-welded production Camaro body-in-white
Carbon fiber hood, trunk lid, doors and fenders
Production LS3 V-8 engine (used with solid engine mounts)
Tremec 6060 six-speed manual transmission with close-ratio gearing
Three-inch exhaust system with Coast Fab mufflers
C&R racing aluminum radiator
Upgraded engine oil cooler
Transmission and differential coolers

The GS Racecar Concept is shown at SEMA just as it was last driven off the track, with the grime, brake dust and body imperfections commensurate with a day’s worth of racing. Indeed, it isn’t a car that spent hundreds of hours in a body shop in a quest of sheet metal perfection. It displays the bruises of competition and wears them as badges of honor.

Like Donohue’s ’69 Camaro racecar, the GS Racecar Concept wears a deep blue paint scheme that is accented with yellow graphics, a yellow-painted interior and yellow racing wheels.

The Camaro Black is a V6 car too btw.

GM will also have a full array of performance goodies for Camaro. Headers for V8 car, CAI's for V6 and V8 cars, and TWO exhaust systems, one 50 state legal, the other "for off road use only"!!! Thats awesome!

Riley is the company preparing the new Camaros for the Koni Challenge series run in conjunction with the Grand AM/Rolex Endurance series. The prepared cars are available for customer racing, I forget what the sticker price is going to be. About the same as the Mustang Challenge Series cars are from Ford, 80-90k. I know it sounds like a lot, but for a national level, ready to go out of the box, class legal race car, that is a bargain.

Ok, those pics really changed my mind about the Camaro, I'm still not thrilled about the interior but DAMN those body accessories REALLY make her look good.

mc73nova 11-03-2008 11:05 AM

That video was awesome, that ZR1 is insane.
LOL $100,000 AWD TWIN TURBO = Last Place
As for those Camaro pics, I think I'm gonna start working two jobs! Every time I see one, I want it more. I would take any of those pictured. As long as it has 420 hp attached to a six speed manual transmission.

GTR is a bitunder 80k, but still.

422hp LS3 attached to 6spd manual is standard. Hurst Shifter extra.
Kinda wish we saw an LS9 powerd Camaro to show the LS9's new addition to the GMPP catalogue.

Al.. still any rumors/news on a z28, or high pro version for 2011?

qwikz28 11-03-2008 11:18 AM

Anyone know if the camaro is getting the 6060 or a t56? I have to agree with you guys that the camaro is starting to look very appealing. But I still have my heart set on a cts coupe!

Tru2Chevy 11-03-2008 11:22 AM

At most dealers the inflation has them priced at $99,999.00
Even at $80,000 you can keep it.

ar0ck 11-03-2008 12:47 PM

The ground effects & spoiler on the two tone silver look amazing! And that Sonocco race car replica... wowooweewah

Frosty 11-03-2008 12:52 PM

Nissan dealers around here are getting 15-20K markup on them all day long.

Could be wireless keyfob like the vettes. I don't remember reading anything about the Camaro having it, but it would make sense.

Riley Technologies Selected to Build Camaro for KONI Challenge

Mooresville, NC (12 August 2008) - The legion of Chevrolet Camaro fans will have a new place to focus their enthusiasm starting next January at Daytona International Speedway, as the legendary V8-powered classic Chevrolet performance machine will return to competition in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge GS Class in 2009.

Riley Technologies has been named the exclusive builder for the Camaro for KONI Challenge competition. The entry will be closely based on the highly anticipated all-new 2010 Camaro, which was recently officially unveiled simultaneously at the GM Tech Center in Warren, Michigan, and GM West Coast Advanced Design Studio North Hollywood, California, GM.

By entering the KONI Challenge, the Camaro will be competing head to head against a world-class field of production-based racers. The category has established itself as key showcase for both driver and product capabilities, and has enjoyed tremendous fields thanks in part to a SPEED television presence as well as a rules package that keeps cost containment a constant focus.

With that philosophy in mind, Riley will be offering four configurations for teams to select from, creating additional opportunities for teams at varying levels of investment to suit team budgets. Teams will be able to select from a complete turn-key race car, a complete unassembled car kit, an unassembled car less purchased parts, and a Riley Technologies Body In White fitted with a roll cage.

We are very excited to be named the exclusive builder of the new Chevrolet Camaro for KONI Challenge, said Riley Technologies VP Bill Riley. We will offer the same level of support for our Camaro KONI Challenge competitors as we do our Daytona Prototype and Rolex GT Class customers. The KONI Challenge is tremendously competitive and we are really looking forward to seeing our customers hit the track starting at Daytona in January.

"The KONI Challenge series is a great venue in which to demonstrate the performance attributes of the new Chevrolet Camaro, said Mark Kent, Director GM Racing. As the exclusive builder of the Camaro for competition in the Koni Challenge series, Riley Technologies will assure the racing version of the Camaro maintains the highest quality standards, is safe and affordable to purchase and operate. With Riley Technologies long history of developing and producing championship winning race cars, we are confident that the Chevrolet Camaro will be a championship contender in the Koni Challenge series."

Riley Technologies has established an excellent record both on the track, and in the paddock. Riley products won both the Daytona Prototype and GT classes of the 2008 Rolex 24 At Daytona, adding to a remarkable record of over 50 victories in the category. A key ingredient in that success has been the high level of service and support that the manufacturer offers its wide customer and competitor base.

The addition of the Camaro to the KONI Challenge GS class has been anticipated since our first peek at the car, and its sure to become an instant fan favorite, said Grand-Am Vice President of Competition David Spitzer. We are glad to support GM Racing, and their selection of Riley as the supplier of both cars and kits. They have a track record of safe and successful race cars, and excellent customer service. Grand Am will work closely with GM Racing and Riley to ensure the Camaro is priced fairly, and with the dedication of Riley we expect to have Camaros on the grid for Daytona in January.

The machine will be delivered ready to race for $130,000, with deposits currently being accepted. Riley will be the only approved manufacturer for the car in KONI competition.

The Grand-Am KONI Challenge GS Class is the top KONI Challenge category. The 2008 KONI Challenge season has seen wins by the BMW M3, Porsche 911, and the Ford Mustang. In addition to racing in support of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, the KONI Challenge also holds events in conjunction with the IndyCar Series, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, as well as staging stand-alone events

For more information or questions, please contact: Bill Riley, (704) 663-6319

Riley Technologies has an extended legacy of success, developing competitive on-track products for the Rolex Sports Car Series, the American LeMans Series, the USAC Silver Crown Series, and the Japanese GT Championship Series.
