DVD decoder.
 
Any one know of where I can get the program needed to view a movie on my comp? Hopefully free... and I am running XP.

windvd is a good simple program. doesn't WMP have a codec for it??

it's not the player that he needs, it's the codec pack. google "codec pack" or simply "codec". if you know which codec it is, as sometimes the player will tell you which one it needs, then google "codec ______" and fill in the blank.

ask 10 different people which player they use and as you can see, you'll get 10 different answers. all players rely on the same codecs or COder/DECoder. unfortunately, you are at the whim of the person who rips the movie for backup as to which codec he used. there are ones that are included with just about every player available, but some seperate the codecs to keep the file size down. i have a version of WMP classic that i use. there's no need to have all of the bells and whistles of the latest release of the player, since they all accept the newest codecs.
