to the cops on here

I am looking at a TA and am concerned about it the guy has a fishy story behind it and has no title,is there any way to have the vin checked to make sure it isn't "hot"?
let me know if there is a way or if you guys can run it.

Thanks

Post or PM me the vin..

WildBillyT 01-19-2009 08:22 AM

Unless the title is lost (he can file for a new one) I'd stay away.

Try and get it checked out. I personally wouldnt buy it if it didn't have a title, unlesss you want a potential parts car. And even then if its stolen who needs that ag.

No title = run away. There are lots of other cars to buy

ta350 01-19-2009 05:05 PM

If ya dont get an answer I "Might" be able to ask the Dep Chief friend that I know to run it as a favor to me.

NJSPEEDER 01-19-2009 10:23 PM

I would ask a lot of questions about what happened to the title. If the title was in the current owners name and was lost, he can fill out a form and get a new one issued. If he has excuses or a story, get the vin and pass it along to the police.

I get 70's t/a's w/o titles every now and then. As long as the story seems somewhat legit, I'm fine. I apply for a title with improper evidence. I usually pick these cars up for a song, so if 'something' came up, it would be a parts car. In a package deal, I wound up with a car that during the process of obtaining the title, the previous owners contacted me and said it was stolen 8 years ago at the time. I showed them the car, which was pretty much a body, interior w/ just the rear axle, an they let me keep it.

Now if a newer car had a missing title, I would ask questions.

Saitin 01-20-2009 10:52 AM

I just want to know if the car has been stolen or not, will a carfax say so?

ta350 01-20-2009 10:53 AM

if it was reported yes it should

but dont rely on carfax. When I bought my truck it was clean, then yesterday when I went to trade it in, it had a major accident... Im still looking into the situation

Crayface 01-20-2009 11:47 AM

get the plates if they have it on, get a cop to run the plates, make sure the info on the plates match the car, if it doesnt its stolen if it does the story he is telling maybe correct, that would be much easier to do as looking up the vin in the PD would require the dispatcher to do it (my PD does it this way, others may be different) which can lead to a bigger chance of getting caught. both are illegal but running the plates can be done by any patrol car.

WildBillyT 01-20-2009 11:50 AM

IF HE REALLY DOES OWN THE CAR HE CAN FILE FOR A LOST OR MISSING TITLE.

If he won't do so, run the **** away, no matter what people tell you.
