For all you forced induction people

what do you gap your plugs at? I have TR6s gapped @ .030. i'm having misfire issues around 9psi, wondering if i'm blowing out the spark or if i should go another heat range colder.

mtg6486 01-21-2009 07:11 PM

my sts kit says to gap em @ .035 and ive had no problems with that

KirkEvil 01-21-2009 07:42 PM

maybe you got a bad tank of gas

how much boost are you running?

i don't think so - fresh tank from the station, but i'll get some from another gas station maybe it was bad gas from there.

KirkEvil 01-21-2009 07:54 PM

From what I've read .035 seems to be what everyone gaps for 7 psi. Have you always run 9psi?

GrandmasterCow 01-21-2009 07:55 PM

nah, i'm at 15psi, but once it hits 9 it breaks up and misfires. i'm reviewing my tuning. maybe it's a fueling issue and not a spark.

TronsBird 01-21-2009 08:03 PM

while were on the topic

which would be a better idea

procharger
paxton
or turbonetics(the more exspensive and harder mod)

best idea?

IIRC, 6 psi, with the ability to do more.

Procharger is prob my #1 SC choice, if were to go turbo, then turbonetics or an OFI kit.

None of the above.

Forged 383.

mtg6486 01-21-2009 10:41 PM

i run 7 lbs ive gota get a good electronic boost controler and it should do 10 no prob wit meth

TronsBird 01-21-2009 10:43 PM

i wanna be the only kid in the tri-state area with a TT , turbo or suparcharged second gen for a daily
plus, power adders seem to be the **** these days

if gas werent so exspensive(even though its cheaper now) and i had a muncie m22, id just drop in a hot 455

but my original plan for my old car was a 383, decisions decisions

i think you need to finish paying for your car, buy some tires and a fender, and get your license back first

TronsBird 01-21-2009 11:40 PM

i got tires, license in 5 days, and the payment can wait, he got a bird for free

the fender, looks like its getting salvaged

nice pic btw keith, its dope

didnt you already do that?

NJSPEEDER 01-21-2009 11:46 PM

Gap is too closed. To properly ignite you need some of hte air/fuel mix int ehplug, .30 is less than stock. Open them up to .35 or .40 and see what happens. If it still breaks up afer that you have either too much advance or not enough fuel.

I'll check my timing tables. Some people on ls1tech said to gap around .028-.030 because you technically can blow out the spark when running 10+psi. it's hard to tell because everyones got something different. but your response makes sense, i'm going to look at my tables and my a/f command see whats going on.

TronsBird 01-22-2009 12:17 AM

lol my bad man

i have a question though

if your running like 15-25lbs of boost, do you need new pistons and a crank?

you will within 2 oil changes. there is always an exception to the rule, but on a stock ltx or lsx bottom end, you would be running on borrowed time

TronsBird 01-22-2009 12:20 AM

the only thing that sucks about turbos is getting custom headers

I have a forged 348: dished pistons, total seal rings, eagle rods, stock crank, bored block, #317 heads, etc...

yeah, stock bottom end some people have been luck around 6-9psi before it's a time bomb. (550rwhp-600rwhp)

TronsBird 01-22-2009 12:22 AM

i wish i had an LS1

i really wanna drop in an LS2 in mine and TT it

GrandmasterCow 01-22-2009 12:36 AM

haha

but yeah, is anyone where familiar with SD tunes and HPTuners? If someone can take a look at my file and many any appropriate adjustments if something stands out as being wayyy wrong, can you let me know? I can sen you my file (.hpt).

69BirdX 01-22-2009 06:32 AM

Post it up on Hp Tuners fourm. See what the people think on there
