Has anyone ever had this problem?
Hi, sorry I don't post much but I really need some help.
Here it goes. I've got a 01 z28 with a 6 speed and it just hit 67k miles. When accelerating from 1st gear usually the car will vibrate REALLY bad and it sort of shudders from the rear somewhere. Its hard to explain, it kind of sounds like a piece of metal is slapping another piece of metal. I replaced the transmission mount with a poly mount and know there is a little vibration after installing one but it shouldn't be as bad as it is. I also replaced the u joints on the drive shaft and it still has these problems. The car is almost unbearable to drive and I'm really getting fed up with it. Those are the details, has anyone ever had a problem like that? I tried searching but I couldn't find anything that sounded like my problem. Thanks in advance. |
is first gear the only time it shutters or is it in every gear it could be the clutch disc i had that problem with one of my vehicles

If I understand your description of the problem correctly, you may be having an issue with the clutch disc- specifically the sprung center of the disc. It's possible that this is worn/damaged and is flexing which causes the slap or vibration effect.

another thing it could be this happend to a buddy of mine on his 92 z28 check your lower control arms if one broke it will twist your rear end a lil bit if those r good id go to the clutch
|
I don't think its the clutch because wouldn't a bad clutch disc cause it to slip? I really don't know, this is my first manual car. I put the car in 4th gear and released the clutch and it died as I let off. I'll check the the control arms tomorrow.

just b/c its not slippin dont mean its not the clutch it couldve broke a spring in the center of the disc or cracked if its not the control arm its most definetly a clutch disc

I'd start by checking the suspenion. First thing is to just back sure all the bolts are tight, lower control arms, Panhard rod, torque arm, shocks. Look at all the bushings, shocks and LCAs.
Put the emergency brake on ( engine off ) and bounce the back of the car up and down, then side to side. Listen if you can hear any noises. |
Thanks for the info I'll try some of that tomorrow.

maybe something is unbalanced? driveshaft? wheel weight fell off? my car did that..... but the rim was bent....

Did you check the U joints?
