Should we build bigger cars for bigger people?
Seems like it's what this show is suggesting. First on the block were the airlines - their sits were too small for people 3 times the normal size. Now the seems to be on the chopping block. The issue is not really the seat, at the moment, but rather the alignment in a small car with a big person inside & seatbelts.
Clicky here for the story Questions, comments or concerns? I think the solution is obvious, you? |
As much as I hate for big brother ness, I would be perfectly ok if the government stepped in and made things like that illegal. If you are too big, too bad, lose weight.
|
I think the answer should be the same if let's say, I was 7 feet tall and decided to buy lotus Elise. Would Lotus change their car for me or tell me to go buy an F-150? I don't think I would have a right to complain about "poor design" and say that I had a bad experience w/ Lotus. The only different I see, I can't become shorter which would put me in a bigger disadvantage, at least that's the way I view it.

I agree, being morbidly obese is your own fault and you can change it.

The absolute worst is when you have to fly on a plane where they ask your weight for payload purposes. I was on one once and a fat lady (probably in the 3-400s) told the attendent she was 200. A guy behind her called BS and told her to tell the truth because he doesn't want to die. I had to bite my lip because it was funny as hell.

So annoying, I don't understand why it's the dealerships responsibility to make sure they have seat belt extenders etc to accomodate these people. Not many people are dumb enough to buy a car they can barely fit into. It's the same old problem continued....no one takes responsibility for themselves.

Didn't this lady look at any other cars when car shopping?

Yea well you buy your fast food, just don't complain when you end up weighing more than 400.

Don't most new cars come with height adjustable seat belts? I can't see designing a whole car based on individual stature or girth, maybe building in a few more adjustments for safety sake, but not designing anything especially for them.

Of course there are people are there that are just f'in lazy and do it to themselves but there are a ton of people out there that aren't at fault. Most people could lose a few pounds(myself included, ideally I should lose about 10) but some people can't control it, no matter what they do. |
If I recall correctly, currently in Japan, senior citizens are fined a certain amount of money for every pant size they are over a government size regulation because of the increasing obesity problems they are having.
As much as I hate the idea of the government stepping in to tell us what to do this is probably one of the few I agree with. |

And those would be the ones I am referring too, if you read Tsar's post he commented that he could not change how tall or short he may be so he couldn't be held to that but willingly making yourself overweight is not excusable. |

The 2nd part is right...it's like a domino effect...one thing leads to another and it's just a vicious cycle. |

I guess my point is it's super easy to be judgmental and assume someone is lazy because they're really overweight. But again there are people out there that fit the stereotype and deserve every disease and illness they get. |
