Console Mod Pics (Does anyone really use 56k anymore to warn?)

I had the original console that I bought with the car, which had a XM Radio installed where the pocket and cigarette lighter would be. I bought one off ebay and kept this around. I needed a place to mount my line lock switch, and wanted to make use out of the wasted space. I seen many people do it before, So I thought I would try...

XM Radio that use to be installed:

Cut out the plastic bracket that was glued in:

Found a scrap piece of plastic at work, cut it down, and sanded it down to fit. Then cut the holes for the switches and guage:

Beveled the top edge a bit so it blended in a little:

Epoxied it on. This stuff smelled nasty as all hell:

The paint I used. Moutain Dew to keep me going :

Quick 2 coats of paint. A/F guage I got from Blackbirdws6. Plus, two switches I swiped from work:

I will probably find some 12v lights to mount above the switches to come on when they are energized:

Rear view. Had to make a little clearance at the bottom for the guage:

Thanks for viewing. :wavey:

hey man came out real nice. did you just use the paint on the console or did you put clear coat over it

deadtrend1 03-10-2009 05:47 PM

just the paint. No clearcoat

madness410 03-10-2009 05:51 PM

how did you get the switches to stay on the plastic through the holes? you inspired me to redo my center console lol

deadtrend1 03-10-2009 05:53 PM

they have nuts that screw onto them, holding them in place. The plastic ones you find that the store will usually have them on the back.

A spare for something I may add in the future. I may get a 3 position switch and do THIS, instead of paying too much for the SLP one

I'll put the narrow band in my truck... I'll order a pillar pod for that.
