Insurance

alrite, well, i almost have the body work done on my car, just need to bleed the brakes and its good to go

but, there is an issue

insurance, mine is through the roof, ive gotten 2 quotes, then they called me back the next day saying they would lower it
but, im just curious, is there and insurance companies that are renowned for being cheap that i dont know about?

WildBillyT 03-12-2009 07:49 PM

For the 79?

TronsBird 03-12-2009 07:51 PM

yeah, most insurance companies will only go to 81, then they refer me to hagerty, but hagerty only does qq's i think

WildBillyT 03-12-2009 07:53 PM

Nope. Doesn't have to be QQ. But it is restrictive.

How old are you? This your only ride? Does it stay outside?

TronsBird 03-12-2009 07:55 PM

17, gonna be 18,only car, sits in a garage

WildBillyT 03-12-2009 07:56 PM

Sorry. For all intents and purposes you are dicked.

LTb1ow 03-12-2009 07:56 PM

Your rates with any carrier are going to be astronomical. Is there any reason why you can't be on a parents plan?

TronsBird 03-12-2009 08:00 PM

yeah, they're broke and itd make their rates higher

if i can find a carrier with 460-500 a month ill be content

progressive wanted 644 a month

that leaves me with 166 bucks a month for gas
i have a turbo 350 and 373's, that doesent work for me lol

LTb1ow 03-12-2009 08:01 PM

644 a month?
Holy shiiit, thats almost what I pay per 6.

TronsBird 03-12-2009 08:03 PM

mhm
f**k me right?

91chevywt 03-12-2009 08:04 PM

Just curious, is the trans am your only car? I am insured with geico, and I have my 91 pickup and my 79 z28 insured with them. I have the truck listed as my daily driver and the camaro listed as a "pleasure car." For the camaro its only $180 every six months. Having a car to list as a daily driver I'm sure keeps the costs down a lot. Also, I'm a 21 year old male with a clean record.

Depending on what they are charging you, it may actually be to your benefit and be cheaper to have a $500-$1000 dollar beater to keep your trans am from being a daily driver.

FlyingDutchman 03-12-2009 08:04 PM

yea i pay about 8xx a year wit NJM but im under my parents policy

TronsBird 03-12-2009 08:06 PM

it is my beater lol, i got it for 2k

and my record is filthy

91chevywt 03-12-2009 08:10 PM

Oh a bad record is going to kill you thats why its so expensive...someone with a bad record+trans am is high risk for any insurance company. Seems like that'll be the price of driving for you until you get a different car

Classic insurance places (Hagerty, Grundy) also ask about your record and won't write you if you are 'high risk'.

TronsBird 03-12-2009 08:16 PM

yeah, i just need to not get in trouble for a while it seems

HeadlessNorseman 03-12-2009 08:29 PM

I have unitrin direct. I have 8 points, my firebird and 924 insured is only 1800 a year. About 1200 with just one car. I have a 4 payment deal per 6 months and they work out to 150 each. I had to put 300 and change down to get the policy tho

NJSPEEDER 03-12-2009 11:17 PM

I woudl say the best you can do at your age, with your record, is to get a company to write a seasonal policy. Basically the car is insured half the year, most policies I have read about run April through September with a limited use carrier.

For a full coverage policy or a policy that is at least worth more than the paper it is written on, yer pretty much beat.

Save your cash, get a $500 beater to drive every day and maybe you can afford to add the 79 as a pleasure vehicle some time down the road.

TronsBird 03-12-2009 11:58 PM

i have 2 points, ill look them up, see what happens, idc, ill pay the insane amount of money, the car is gonna be my daily, im hellbent

Jersyboyy 03-13-2009 12:26 AM

Unitron just quoted me 120ish bucks less than im paying now.
Before with progressive=279 now with Unitron=155.
Im calling progressive tomorrow to cancel and Unitron to begin with them :)
THANKS=isphius

Yeah, you are officially ****ed.

I know you said that the car just sits in the garage...do you ever drive it though? If not you should look into covering it for comp only (no liab listed) you would prob need to just show proof that u returned plates to dmv...and may perhaps have to put it in writing that the veh is not being driven and is it kept parked at pol addr. I know its not terrible expensive but it will cover the car for comp (the only thing it would really need if it sits in the garage---theft, fire, vand, flood, etc). Just a suggestion.
