Picked up a Mopar

My dad and I picked this thing up on Saturday. 1965 Barracuda, slant 6 (turned out to be .030 over, aftermarket cam, 4barrel intake manifold, long tube header, adjustable rocker arm setup). The car has only a few small rust holes, it had been garage kept all its life, and we bought it mainly because the shocktowers were in great shape and the rest of the body was surprisingly good. The guy was moving, and needed the money. Not bad for $1,000.

Local car all its life.

We pulled the motor yesterday, and got it down to the shortblock. A gasket set is on order, as well as a water pump.

My dad is pretty stoked on this car, he is planning on just getting the motor back together, put on some new brakes, tires, and whatever else it needs to be safe and just cruising for a while.

Will do, It honestly shouldnt take much to get it back up and running pending everything is okay with the bottom end (which looks good) and the rest of the drive train.

Its a good possibility I could DD it for a while, gonna depend on how reliable it is and whether or not I put a dual master cylinder for the brakes :-)

LTb1ow 03-30-2009 08:02 PM

Yea, they suck. LOL, we had one in the travel lift at work. Coupled with bad gas, dead batterys and leak head gaskets, that thing never died. In the winter it would crank forever before starting and it overheated like no other. LOL. And of course it was 10 feet of the ground and you could not work on both sides at once so I am a bit biased.

;)

Very hard to kill the 'Leaning Tower of Power'. Those 6's go forever.

nice shed you have there. is that a 40 x 60?

bad64chevelle 03-30-2009 08:13 PM

I hope youre right, Ive never heard they were EASY to kill
Thanks, yeah its 40x60.

I can say that ours caught on fire, leaked worse than an LT1, and would drop spark on random cylinders and yet still managed to live. On top of that, the lift operator liked to rev the snot out of it, even though the hydraulics had reliefs... lol

Ian 03-31-2009 12:27 AM

best of luck with it!

bubba428 03-31-2009 05:02 AM

put a hemi in it....

79CamaroZ 03-31-2009 06:31 AM

haha. that reedman logo on the back is pretty awesome. i wonder if it was originally bought there, or if it was traded there years ago. pretty interesting.

regardless, cool car man. with a deal like that, you can take that car in any direction you want without worrying about it too much. have fun!

bad64chevelle 03-31-2009 04:50 PM

The HEMI we have is set for another project, I think the Barracuda is destined for a blown 440.
