Had to push my LT1 home

So I was driving my convertible and got 1 block away and BAM! It dies! Had to push it all the way home, in the dark.

Fuel pump died. I guess that's my fault for having my dealer install a new fuel pump in September when it died at work.

Grrrr stupid nice weather and no convertible. Guess I have to settle for moonroof in the Sierra.

sweetbmxrider 04-20-2009 02:39 PM

damn, muscles!!

baddest434 04-20-2009 02:43 PM

sucks but atleast you were only 1 block from home.

Blackbirdws6 04-20-2009 03:08 PM

Get that pump replaced! Nice weather is coming.

LuvMyF8LWS6 04-20-2009 07:00 PM

Already have it out! Waiting for the new one to come!

You have guts and or way to much misguided enthusiasm.

Its cutting time for my Z.

NastyEllEssWon 04-21-2009 03:12 PM

dropping a tank isnt that bad

sweetbmxrider 04-21-2009 03:14 PM

sure isn't, but cutting the floor isn't that bad either

DevilDougWS6 04-21-2009 03:22 PM

dropping the tank is a bit of a chore, but not difficult. id hate to do all that work just to replace that little fuel pump. whats a good way to re-secure the piece that you cut off?

NastyEllEssWon 04-21-2009 03:24 PM

with a hinge and lock mechanism

DevilDougWS6 04-21-2009 03:31 PM

now the trick is to cut the piece the right size and in the right place....the FIRST time.

sweetbmxrider 04-21-2009 03:43 PM

i would honestly just drop the tank unless my exhaust was welded. even still i'd probably hack it off and reinstall it after.

i bet there is a template kicking around for the access door

91chevywt 04-21-2009 07:52 PM

you shouldn't have to actually remove the rear, just drop it down along with everything else down there. I did it without having to take out the rear, brakelines, driveshaft. If you use air tools it's not that bad. Of course that was a 3rd gen though.

bobb1589 04-21-2009 08:57 PM

the trap door method is easy... i had mine done in less than an hour, thats from beginning to end

Correct, undoing the top shock bolts inside lets the rear drop way down, which leaves more than enough room to work around the tank.

I'll be dropping mine soon, although I'll be swapping rears at the same time.

I had this done already in September, and the tank was dropped. But stupid Ford did it because it died at work. It wasn't my first choice to have them do it, but FREE is FREE so I couldn't complain. However, it's dead in the street this time so the tank has to be dropped on my curb! lol

Edit: that pump is 400 bucks if you get it from autozone. eff that

CHRIS67 04-23-2009 06:18 AM

Just all part of the GM cross trainging program. Drive a little puch a little.

LuvMyF8LWS6 04-23-2009 08:09 AM

I got an aftermarket pump. I just put a GM pump in there and it crapped out. I got a high performance pump so hopefully I can at least get it to perform something!
