J/k, but after seeing Kirkevil's thread on painting the valve covers I decided it's time to clean up my engine bay a little, especially since everyone was complaining about how dirty it was at the meet.:-? But I'd say the valve covers were pretty dirty.(Untouched on the left, partially prepped one on the right)

And how they look currently...

I know, I was kinda waiting to see a partially broken spring or something. I've hit the 6200 rpm rev limiter a couple times and was kinda worried. With the noisy valve train stock, I didn't know if anything was broken. I think I might pull the pushrods tomorrow before I piece it back together to see how they look.

Looks good Vinnie. Now take some elbow grease and cleaner to the rest of the engine bay! ;)

haha thanks Matt. I'm heading out there right now to go finish it up and maybe clean the engine bay a little.

hmm the valvetrain on my t/a isnt noisey. and thats with many hard miles with me driving it lol. only time i had noise was when i broke a valvespring and it ran rough and the other was when i bent a pushrod lol. nice valvecovers btw

it definately wouldnt hurt to pull the pushrods. and they rockers get torqued to 22ftlbs

NJ346 05-03-2009 03:48 PM

Finished product....

This is by far the cleanest the engine bay has been since I've owned the car.

NastyEllEssWon 05-03-2009 05:26 PM

i would paint the lid and lose the underhood stickers

Just curious why are you reving a stock ls1 to 6200? Have you looked at a power curve ???? But anyway the painted valve covers look nice.

Rev limiter is set at 6200, I never said that's what I always shift at:roll:

01blackz28 05-03-2009 07:37 PM

Oh now I get it. Almost........ Wait not really. A stock cam peaks power a 5500 rpm. By 6000 rpm the car is making the same power which it is making at 4600 rpm. So what sense would it make to have a rev limiter set at 6200? The drop off in power is huge. So let me ask you why is your rev limiter set at 6200??? Or are you that bad of a driver  ???

NastyEllEssWon 05-03-2009 07:46 PM

my guess would be some nasty burnouts or crazy spinning off the line a few times in first when he first got the car

hmm....lets see, there are mutliple reasons one would have a rev limiter set to 6200. 1) The place that dyno tuned the car upped the rev limiter to that without me asking. 2) If I ever run 4:10's with a 26 inch tall tire I will be able to finish the 1/4 just before 6200. Please stop posting in my thread. Atleast when I make fun of someone's **** I post under the same name and don't hide behind a different username. :loser:

That would be correct. First few times at the track I got to learn how slow the LS1 tach really is on the launch. I was hitting rev limiter when the tach was reading ~5600.

A. Any reputable shop will not adjust the rev limiter to 6200 without asking.
B. You might want to use a gear calculator, 4.10 + 26" tire + 6200 = 117 mph
which you will not achieve with a bolt on car.
C. I don't hide behind any username everything posted is under here.
D. My daily driver on a street tire has run faster then your best on radials with skinnies.

LTb1ow 05-03-2009 08:09 PM

Oh boy, in for the drama/entertainment.

Lets go Vinnie!

A.The shop that did the tune was TTP in pasiac which has had their shop car in the 8's compared to your car that runs 10's.

B.You are wrong about a bolt-on car not reaching 117, maybe you should actually race at the track instead of keyboard racing.

C. I wasn't talking about on here, I was talking about your comments posted on a youtube video that was linked on here 2 months back.

D. ****ing bring that dud down here and let's line em up.

E. What part did you not get about getting the **** outta my thread?

01blackz28 05-03-2009 08:15 PM

actually the fastest ttp's car went was 9.9x http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/single...r-goes-9s.html
im done, your car will never trap close to 117 bolt ons.

why? mine traps high 115s and i don't have everything out of it that i can

there's plenty of bolt on cars trapping over 117

I was gonna say TPI's, but lt1 was more related to the argument since one of his cars used to be an lt1
