Sweetness! Converts LT1 to coilpacks and LS1 OBDII PCM. :nod: I think the kit is like 500 bucks, which is much cheaper than replacing an opti if you can pick up a set of coils and a PCM for cheap. And people were saying the LT1 was old and gone... pft! :wink:

Interesting, I'm curious how it works, I'm guessing they put the pick up sensor in the new crank cover. The work involved in getting that cover off though is more of a pain in the ass then replacing the Opti IMO.

And why convert it to OBDII? If you've already poured money into having the car running right like in a tune for example, why go through the hassle of starting from scratch and having error codes up the wazoo if you throw in a computer from a completely different car.

I could be completely wrong but I just see it as adding to the headache.

Perhaps, but it opens up a TON of potential for tuning applications etc. Ability to spin past 6k reliably and the added coolness of coil packs.

what if your car is obd 2 already... you still need to use an ls1 pcm...??

Most likely, the OBDII LT1 PCM only uses the CPS for misfire, so theres no way to reprogram it to do cam position etc.

And its not just the LT1/LT4 engines either, I believe there are kits to convert SBCs and TPI engines over too.

But like I said before, its a step back for a bunch of people who have functioning systems. I can't think of many people spinning their motors over 6k, I think that has a lot more to do with the motor itself.

And again, you have to look past that.

For me, its a good option for tuning, most tuners won't touch ODBI cars... also, you can run all the cool gadgets OBDII PCMs can... The lack of opti makes it safer to wash your engine, no random misfire codes... etc etc etc. And I spin mine to 6300 ish... stock ish too...

Like I said, its just nice to see things being made for the LT1. If I have an opti die, I will def give this conversion serious thought.

Interesting. I don't like having to use a OBD2 PCM or a LS1's for that matter but its interesting at least. I would have thought they could have made a harness to trigger coils rather than swapping PCM's and I must be one of the lucky one's who hasn't had too many opti issue's but it definetly is interesting, especially for someone looking to get rid of there opti.

Only thing I would find this good for is to be able to use the LS1 tuning suites such as HPTuners or EfiLive since no one tunes LT1's anymore....at least locally and except for mail order.

I think it looks to be a very nice product but I wish the price would come down a bit since this will get very expensive when including the LS1 goodies.

Yea price is a tad high, but figure an MSD unit is around the same range... So its a trade off, but with LS1s falling in price, coilpacks and a PCM could be found for pennies...

Yeah, its 500 for the kit, but then figure 500 at least for the coils and wires. The wires would probably have to be custom since the LS1 and GenI/II spark plugs are spaced differently.
Then you have to put the coils somewhere...its a PITA, but if done correctly could be a hell of a deal.
Now someone who can fab up a few brackets to mount a Gen III coil pack rack to the top of the valve covers, that woudl be a good idea.

McNova had a set up for 70 I think..... Wires would be the same with different mounting of the coils....

The mounting bracket is easy enough, anyone who is planning on doing this can have a mounting plate, I made a few extra templates when I was making one to mount my coil (just need to drill the holes to match the LS1 coil pack holes..

500 might be a little high but lets also not forget you will need to pay for a LS1 PCM. So to say all together with everything you need it might run 800 is not out of the questions and thats like the price of 2 or 3 new opti's depending on where you buy them from.

how will the lt1 trans and gauge cluster electronics respond to the ls1 computer?
