my wonderfull lt-fun problem

i bought my 95 z28 last may and since i have had it, it always takes about 3 seconds of turning over to fire up, it has 125k miles on it but during the last weekend whenever i get to 4 thousand rpms i just about loose all my power and barely accelerate, and im not sure if its in my mind but im pretty sure im at a pretty big loss of power. my check engine light isnt on and all the guages on the dash are acting how they should, ie normal temp and time to warm up and normall oil psi, should i just skip right to replacing the opti or is there anything else it could be?

I'd start with the Mass Air Flow sensor, make sure its on correct.

Fuel pump. Takes 3 tries sometimes to start, right?. I had the same exact symptoms when mine started to go. First the check ball would stick, wouldn't hold pressure so once the key was triggered the pump would click off and the pressure would instantly fall back down, creating prolonged starting, then it would lose power under WOT and high rpm's. Switched to a walbro 255lph and all was back to normal.

or fuel filter...it sounds like fuel loss to me..had the same issue with my 94

Coupla things to do, before you go spending any money, rent/borrow/steal a fuel pressure guage, tape it to the windshield and go floor it somewhere. See if you are losing pressure up top, if so, well replace the filter, check again. If that doesn't solve it, well, its most likely your pump, but you could check the relay and connections for corrosion etc.

However, usually, breaking up at higher RPMs is the coil on its way out. That is a whole other testing process, but first check the fuel pressur.e

Seafoam, plugs, wires, fuel filter, PCV valve

look at the coil, coil wire, and coil plug inlet on the cap. see if there is corrosion built up on any of those points.

picked up a fuel filter today i'll put it on this wekend and my friend has a fuel pressure guage i can use sometime this week

LTb1ow 05-13-2009 05:29 PM

If its not that, I have a stock coil around here somewhere if you wanna try that.

sweetbmxrider 05-13-2009 05:36 PM

i have a used msd one from my car actually.

i found out its the cat thats causeing all this and im sure the opti or something is causing the starting issue. stupid me went ahead and drilled a 1/4 hole infront of the cat to help relieve the pressure buildup not realizing the loud whistling sound it was gonna make. oh well i guess i'll have to do long tubes and the whole 9 yards...but yeah it seems to run better but it is still pretty clogged up i guess i'll have to drive around in the most embarassing camaro over
