What carb was used on 87 z28 305. I know its a 4bble rochester but dont know CFM, and anyone know what a good replacement would be?

I get it, its a 305 dont waste my money on it blah blah blah.

if you are keeping all the computer stuff then have yours rebuilt.

the stock quadrajet is a good carb, and will support a respectable ammout of power, i would keep it. Maybe freshen it up a bit with a rebuild.

The stock carb was a computer controlled Q-Jet. They were capable of flowing up to ~750 cfm, however I have read that on a stock setup you wouldn't see those numbers because the secondaries don't open 100%.

Would love to get rid of the computer garbage but probably too involved to do right now.

If you ditch the computer you have to get a non CC carb, a non CC distributor, and you have to address the lockup for the converter if it's an automatic.

And EGR control? IIRC the EGR solenoid is CCC controlled, although I could be mistaken.

With a 305 there is little benefit to you changing carbs. Spend the $$ somewhere more useful like gears or SFCs. At least IMO. If it is true that the secondaries don't open 100% then a good rebuilder can fix that.

Its a 5speed. so dont have to worry about lockup. SFCs?

BonzoHansen 05-27-2009 08:08 AM

Sub frame connectors.

I replaced the carb on my car a few years ago. Ordered a reman from www.guaranteedcarbs.com, after shipping it cost me $236. Dropped it on and haven't had to touch it since. Didn't even need any adjustments after I installed it.

I didn't look into having mine rebuilt, from what I've heard there a PITA unless you find someone that really knows how to work on them.

Thanks for the info i'm going to check that link out now.

I got rid of the computer stuff all at once on my 84 5 speed. Edelbrock performer with egr blocked, a holley 600 cfm that i had and a vac advance distributor that i rebuilt with a pepboys rebuild kit. Ran great till headgaskets went :( If you DD the car i would suggest a brand new carb and distributor, I had a demon Jr 500 cfm on my work van 305 and that ran great too. Plenty of power and will run decent.
