Speeding Ticket!

Got my first speeding ticket today on my way to work, 69 in a 55. I know its going to be 2 points but was curious how much of a fine I'm looking at. Is it worth it to show up on the court date and try to get it lowered?

Your going to eat the fine but you might beable to talk to the proscecuter and loose the points. They usually do that for 1st offenses..I reccomend definately going. Call the courthouse or look on the back of the ticket for the cost of the fine. At 21 you should be more concerned about the points rather then the one time ticket price.

in NJ, your insurance cannot raise your rates for having 2 points.

Yeah I'm not worried about the fine as much as the points. If they can reduce/remove the points and increase the fine I'm fine with that. I didn't get a good chance to look at the ticket yet, I'll have to check it out after work to see what the back says.

yea talk to the prosecutor he will almost always drop it to a no point and just charge a fine i've had it happen a few times

They will most likely send a court date notification in the mail correct?

Yea you need to call and tell em you wanna plea not guilty. However you only get two get out of jail free cards every like 5 years... so you may wanna just pay the ticket.. as stated your insurance can't go up for 2 points... after court fees and what not you prob will pay more.

My .02 cents.

I do believe you guys about the insurance not raising for 2 points, but I can't find any source of this online. Can you possibly link me to somewhere that states this?

either way, call and plea not guilty. theyll ask if all your info on the ticket is correct (name and address) and send you a new court date notice in the mail. Then you go to court, talk to the prosecutor or complaining officer, and itll more than likely get dropped to something less...if youre lucky youll get unsafe driving for conditions, thats no points.
