Progress on the Formula...

Well it finally didnt rain this afternoon so i got about 6 hours of work in.
i need to find some more parts, possibly a headlight motor and a seatbelt guide and maybe a passenger side black power mirror...

I did the hatch weather stripping last week and it didnt leak!!! so i reinstalled the carpeting which dried out and all the plastics after a good scrubbing.

I went ahead and ordered new T-top weather stripping today, I didnt wanna but there was no more repairing wat was there lol, so i ripped up the old stuff, sanded down the surface rust and applied some rustoleum, doesnt have to look pretty since it gets covered up. I was expecting worse tho.

the brown stuff is the factory glue, not rust lol

once i get the T-tops done, i can dry out the carpet and reassemble the rear passenger area, luckily there is zero rust in the floors, must not have been leaking for too long but there sure were puddles, and ruined the headliner.

The front here is apart for chasing down the power wire for the radio... wtf i cant find it!! also i found the control box for headlight wig-wags lol

just a little off topic observation that im sure has already been made, but you went from white camaro 3rd and 4th gen to black 3rd and 4th gen trans am and formula, just thought that was funny

sweetbmxrider 06-20-2009 12:28 PM

update!

got the T-top weather stripping done yesterday, let the glue dry overnight and tested it out today... still had a few leaks, tracked them down and hopefully sealed them up!

http://inlinethumb61.webshots.com/13...600x600Q85.jpg

pulled up the carpet on the passenger side. sucked up all the water n crap under the carpet, put down a light coat of undercoating on the low laying areas that had water, just incase its leaks again some day, there was no rust at all suprisingly

dam, cars coming along nice. How much did you spend on the t top weather stripping? I am sure they are around the same price for 3rd and 4th gens? I need some new ones for my Z28. Cant wait to see this car when you're done

maroman88 06-28-2009 09:37 PM

i got em on ebay... i think it was 140ish shipped

band77one 06-30-2009 05:36 PM

repo ttop weatherstripping or off brand weather stripping never quite seals like the original lol

Teds89IROC 06-30-2009 06:14 PM

Nice progress, mine have been good so far...I also try and keep them amor-alled so they always stay soft and flexible

maroman88 07-07-2009 04:59 PM

aside from some more cleaning, the interior is complete!... pulled up the driverside carpet and put down some undercoating. Installed a used/new ABS plastic backed headliner i picked up over the weekend. Put the interior all back in and cleaned up a few things. Still waiting for a bracket for the ac/smog pump and a passenger side mirror to come and install and i wanna undercoat the bottom of the car

HeadlessNorseman 07-13-2009 02:16 AM

firebird interior is ftw. They always got the better end of the stick. Even in 4th gens. I need to replace my doors and fix some wheel well rust and redo my window weatherstripping too and this is inspirational. That...and wind noise on the highway

maroman88 07-13-2009 05:40 PM

progress today...
scrapped off some surface rust from underneath... NO rot or holes of any kind! applied a nice layer of undercoating.
installed the smog pump bracket and pump and routed all the hoses, just need to pick up the correct length belt tomorrow and thatll be done!
im still waiting for the passenger side mirror i bought to come, then i think its done and will be for sale :)... followed by the TA

Was the 3.55 posi a typo for 3.45 in a 9 bolt? AFAIK no 3rd gens ever came with a 3.55 gear set.
