Converting 3.4 Firebird to a Lt1.

Well I think its about time to Post up me and my buddy's new Project. As of right now we are Converting His Sister 3.4 Firebird into a lt1. For a Birthday/Graduation Present. So far here is what we have done Pic's will be posted up later. Already have the motor in and bolted in just awaiting for the 4l60e to get back from the shop. There Really wasn't much to it. All we have to do is a little bit of electrical But here are some basics things we ran into.

We Bolted up a lt1 K-Frame because the lt1 motor mounts wont bolt up to a 3.4 K-frame.
We Put in a lt1 Fuel Pump and ran New Fuel Lines.
Put in lt1 Throttle Cable 3.4 TB Cable was too short.
Put In lt1 radiator.
The Rest Is just electrical.

Also I was wonder has anyone ever done this before ?

i was looking into doing it. what year is the donor car and what year is the lt1? you have to swap the dash harness and gauge cluster. may run into air bag issues too. i'm guessing you swapped the electric fans with the radiator?

Czop418 07-23-2009 02:15 AM

Yea were actually going for a sleeper look were keeping the same cluster. And theyre both 95's obd1. And yes we swapped out the fans with the radiator.

sweetbmxrider 07-23-2009 07:04 AM

i don't think the gauge cluster actually works with the lt1 sensors. you could grab a 110 speedo i guess but i think thats a little silly. let me know how it all goes. considering doing it to my 95's, its the easiest ones to swap.

i put a 96 LT1 in my '79 corvette...

njcamarokid 07-23-2009 07:11 PM

as far as i know you need to change the dash harness gauge cluster and obd1 plug....it's all connected. Had to do it in my car that way.

Fire_Chicken92 07-25-2009 03:29 PM

oh no!! LT1=optisuck bringing back bad memoriesssssss

Savage_Messiah 07-25-2009 04:53 PM

Cluster won't work, and the entire wiring harness probably needs to be swapped... don't forget about front springs/struts. May want to do a brake upgrade as well, especially if the car has drums in the back

Do you have a donor LT1 car? makes things easier

Acutally had to put up a lt1 subframe so the springs and struts are all good. And no durms in the back. And original cluster works :). And yes Optisparks still blow. Actually wired her up today and fired her up. SHE runs. But unfortunately cant drive here we need a lt1 throttle cable.

should have ditched the opti and went with coil packs  im looking into that when i do my motor, it will cost more to do it but alt least you're bulletproof

sweetbmxrider 07-27-2009 10:58 AM

yeah transmaro93 is doing that with his now. its really nice but i like the fact that i can distort the rotor going well above 5k

I fail to understand the hate of optisparks. Mine works fine... lives its life above 6k...

Jam 07-27-2009 12:30 PM

camaros are never sleepers lol. even if its a v6 model...now a galant vr4 or a AE86 Corolla is a true sleeper

they are fine when they run,but swapping them out every couple of months is a pain in the ass..
Just avoid driving in the rain the snow and any puddles and your should last until it decides to /wrists.
Plus changing them inside the engine bay is a hassle I look forward to never performing that again.

Again, what?

Mine lasted a long wet winter, and close to a year and a half now... just a GM replacement cause I had the STOCK one off...
