How do I get the top bolt off on the driver side?
|
YOU NEED LONG EXTENSION WITH SWIVEL SOCKET,
OR MAKE SURE CROSSMEMBER IS OUT WITH JACK SUPPORTING BACK OF TRANS AND LOSEN UP THE 19MM (ITHINK) bolts on the kmember to drop the motor down a little to give you better straight on access to bolt. |
Now I just draw the tranny in with the bolts right?
|
You absolutely do not want to draw the tranny in with the bolts. You wand to line up the trans , thread bolts in by hand,
then making sure converter is fully seated into trans slowly wiggle/push trans towars engine. Once on the dowels and within a 1/8" or so from motor recheck to make sure converter isn't hitting flywheel (should be 1/4"-1/2" away then zip bolts in. If m6 trans , lock into gear and use tail shaft to align splines and then trans should go tight relatively easy. If auto and you don't follow instructions you can a. Break the front pump(if converternot in all the way, and or crack the trans case. |

So how do you get the top most bolts?
Automagic? |
like is said before use a long extension(24-36") with swivel.
if you put all bolts except top, then let the back of trans hang down(lower jack down) that will make engine tilt back and give you enough room to install top bolts. |
the trans would not drop down far enough because I have poly motor mounts in, and it was getting late. The TC project is postponed for 2 weeks so I can pull the motor and tranny.
the radiator leak was just fitting for the install fail today |

i was thinking about loosening the k bolts.
ls1 with a little lt1 in it  |
You can definatley get it with a swivel socket and U-joint from the driver side of the trans near the back, or you can normally get a ratcheting box wrench up there if you have small enough hands, it is slow but can be done

Have done my trans many times with extensions and swivels along with having poly mounts and not lowering the k member. Just takes some patience to get the bolt up in the damn hole.
