Nj Inspection

I decided to take my bird in to the NJ state inspection. Why should I pay a shop since I am emissions legal right? So I pass through and it takes them a while and I see them constantly going over the car. Looking over my headlamps back in forth. In the end the car fails over a 2 inch sticker I had above my inspection sticker and my metal brake pedals. They said there cant be any kind of obstructions in the windshield, driver and pass window, and rear window or it will fail. And the pedals must have rubber pads on them or it fails. I did pass emissions and everything else lol. So now I have to pay a shop for an inspection sticker over not having rubber on my brake and gas pedal, and a 2 inch sticker that was easily removed. My little episode yesterday lol. Guy tells me there are a lot of new rules and that you should research them before bringing the car. So I guess they should have some kind of book out right?

Inspection sux!!they failed me for the pedals also....and said my hood scoop was too big....your allowed 3" scoop but not 4"

BonzoHansen 08-13-2009 09:01 AM

the pedal thing has some merit - the pads wear out and the bare metal pedals are slippery with wet shoes. they can't differentiate between aftermarket pedals & such. the sticker seems bogus but it's the rules. line of sight, blah blah blah.

If you remove them you shoud be able to go to the back door & get a new sticker w/o spending any $$. then put them back on.

I failed inspection a while ago for the pedal thing also. Went to pep-boys and got those cheapy pedal cover things. Car went straight through after that.

They failed my firebird for a loose steering column. It had literally 1mm of play. I didnt even know how to fix that aside from going in there and welding it. They will find any stupid reason to fail you.

sweetbmxrider 08-13-2009 09:47 AM

the oil change sticker is bull ****. i don't know how they get away with it. should have said the 4 inch inspection sticker is blocking more than that ****.

3rd gen? you have to rip everything out of the column and you can tighten 3 out of the 4 bolts. i think they were torques or something stupid too.

the bolts are backing out in the tilt. they will eventually loosen to the point of failure, which is not good on the road. That is a good fail in my book.

Thanks for the idea will go by there and buy them today. Dont feel like paying someone for something dumb like that. My pedals are aftermarket and have some kind of raised circles so they dont slip at all even when wet so i have never had a problem plus it passed inspection with them before. Like the guy said rules keep changing. You should have seen them messing with my head lights since they are HID's and were different from the high beams. They also kept looking at the blacked out marker lights. But since the lights worked orange up front and red in the rear they had no choice but to pass it. There was a total of 6 people doing my inspection with a supervisor. They see a performance car coming in suddenly the book comes out lol.

the pedal thing has always been there, but it is one of those things that probably gets missed as much as caught

firebirdcrazy 08-13-2009 01:08 PM

you cant just put rubber ones on for inspection? its probably cheaper to buy rubber pedals than pay for a new sticker...

NJ inspection is a joke..i failed for an exhaust leak in my civic once. on my way home from school i passed the inspection center...no line, figure why not mess with them and bring it back...see what they do. they passed it and i didnt even get it fixed lol.

i have a set of tires out in the shed that would work fine, i was just trying to squeeze through inspection before i sell the car

ShitOnWheels 08-13-2009 03:14 PM

The sticker thing is BS. MB puts stickers in the lower passenger windshield. It does NOT block the driver's FOV by any means (I never realize it's there, and it's see through). The inspection sticker, however, can block the view at times, but the car doesn't fail for that. LOL

Oil change stickers do not block the view either. If nothing can block the view, I guess we shouldn't use the sun visors then, should we? They block the view moreso then the stupid stickers.

So annoying.

Now you know why I went for the collector car sticker. NJ inspections are a joke. :moon:

Its BS because plastic/rubber soles on shoes and rubber pedals when wet = slippery too. Its all a bunch of BS, I cant wait to see if they fail me in NJ with the stock metal pedals in the Solstice when I need inspection

CJDZ24_Z28 08-15-2009 11:10 PM

I just paid $100.00 and got a nice 2 year sticker.

NJ Torque 08-16-2009 12:39 AM

The LOF sticker is if its overdue you'll fail...
