Plumber needed

My bathroom sink is clogged and we've tried the chemical drain cleaners but it doesn't seem to be working. Anyone on here a plumber? It'd be great if we didn't have to fork out a few hundred bucks to call someone out of the phonebook. Thanks

not a plumber by trade but i do some plumbing work because i work maintenance at a retirement home.

i deal with clogged sinks every day.

FlyingDutchman 08-18-2009 08:39 PM

shut the water off and pull it apart!

comon if you can change an optispark you can unclog a drain

emolineaux 08-18-2009 09:01 PM

dont even have to shut the water off. just dont hit the handles when the drain is apart

emolineaux 08-18-2009 09:03 PM

but if your within an ok driving distance im sure i can borrow the snake from work one weekend.

FlyingDutchman 08-18-2009 09:06 PM

btw that bend in the bottom, basically gonna smell like ass

Knipps 08-18-2009 09:16 PM

I'm in 07430 and I'd need it done asap. I've got it apart right above the bend and we have a snake but I just can't get anything out of it.

well what did you drop?

Knipps 08-18-2009 09:47 PM

nothing was dropped down afaik, it's just prone to clogs.

chrisfrom nj 08-18-2009 10:04 PM

the prob could be in the main pipe in the basement

FlyingDutchman 08-18-2009 10:48 PM

if its prone to clogging, just buy a snake then lol

Knipps has yet to fail at pointing out someone not reading something. Doctor thunder recommends a girlfriend.

If nothing else is backed up in the house, and the trap under the sink is clear then the backup is most likely where the drain attaches to the main line. How much of the snake are you feeding into the drain?

:werd: You may have to go a good distance with the snake to clear it out. We just had that problem with our kitchen sink; everything else is flowing fine, but the kitchen was backing up. We wound up going in 15-20 feet with the snake to get it clear.

Knipps 08-19-2009 10:51 AM

Yeah, I've got the snake in a little more than a foot (starting under the sink at the bend) but I'm hitting a point where the snake just isn't going any further, I'll have to just keep trying

The Fixer 08-19-2009 01:48 PM

Is yours the kind that attaches to the end of a drill? Those work pretty well. And just so I'm thinking straight, you took off the p-trap (little elbow thing) and are now going into the straight pipe in the wall?

Knipps 08-19-2009 04:43 PM

I'm starting at the the elbow, I took off the pipe that connects it to the sink drain. It's not one that connects to the drill either, it's like a really long dipstick with something on the end
