engine opinions?
well if the 94 camaro doesnt sell i was thinking of doing a swap to give the car some more power. the ls1 route is more than i would like to spend on the car so unless i find a cheap priced one thats out.
what ya think sbc lt1 or swap the top end to the supercharged 3.8 top end |
You can't swap a supercharged 3.8 90* v6 top end onto the 3.4 60* v6.
- Justin |
None of the above.
|
maybe it was the 3.5 top end i read way back when lol. i forget
|
You can swap the FWD 60* v6 top ends onto the 3.4, but with a stock 200+k mile short block, I wouldn't bother. Take a cam swap to really get use out of the extra flow of the later heads and intake, and you prolly don't wanna put that bottom end through any more abuse.
If you want cheap with a little more grunt, swap a 3.8 and do a few bolt ons and a tune. - Justin |
i was just checking out 3.8s and 5.3s on ebay and they are pretty damn cheap.
|
a guy at work is giving me a high output 5L ford engine with harness and computer. i was thinking of dropping that in and fabricating some mounts for the motor and trans but idk how i would feel about that lol
|
I vote LT1 swap. That'd be the easiest and most painless swap you could do. Not to mention the resources you'd have from this and other sites.
A Ford motor in that car is blasphemy, not to mention going to be a royal pain in the ass. |
I dunno it all sounds like you want to take a car that is worth less than you think and make it worth nothing at all, while simultaneously running yourself into the same kind of debt you claimed the last swap cost you and forced you to up put up for sale.
But if you are gonna do anything, go BBC. |

Any kind of swap is gonna cost you a nice chunk of change, I'm sure you already know that. But, if you do it, the 5.3's can be had very cheap. |

I've got a 3.4 with the 3400 top end .485/.512 lift cam, 24lb/hr injectors pacesetter headers. just need a water pump and the bolts for the water pump and the front accessories, I never had the motor running for a little bit but it wouldn't hold idle with out an AFPR. it would also be wise to oil the bearings before you run it. $500 as is, i'll also throw in a flywheel and a good V6 T-5. from my 94 camaro...I'm putting a S/C 383 in mine
|
ill keep that in mind. gonna try to sell the car first
|
dont even bother with just doing the cam, its a nice little bit of power added to it but nothing to write home about and if your used to driving an ls1 u wont notice a thing. I think if my car wasnt an auto it might be fun but its always gona be a 6. Top end is just so ****ing restrictive.
ive only read about the 3400 top end swap but have never actually seen the final product. it has alot of potential on paper. the bottom end is all forged since its the final evolution of the 2.8 so it could take nicely to some power added also. fullthrottlev6 has alot of people always talking about it but thats all it ever really was, talk. look for a full lt1/ls1 kmember and engine take off or even look into a built 3.8 setup, now thats a nice powerplant and its not obd1.5 so u do have some easy tuning options. lots of after market parts for the 3.8. but in all honesty just sell the thing. i think id rather drive a 305 turd gen even thought the 3.4 stock can take it in the 1/4mile just my .02 |
ls1tech has a great section for the 60* v6 motors.
swapping in anything different will end up being to much of a hassle unless you can get a parts car or 2 cheap enough. |
