1988 RamCharger updates

I picked up this back in the spring off of a local Fire Department. The goal is to do a cheap DD that will eventually be used for some wheeling once I find a job.

Its got a 360 engine, 727 trans, its 4wd, and the motor was not running right, so they sold it. 56k original miles. I got it home, got the motor running but it knocked REAL bad so I finally got around to pulling the engine today. The Oil pump stopped, and wiped the cam. I purchased a Dodge camper with a rebuilt 360 and 727 trans REAL cheap, so I had a spare engine if this one was shot. Luckily I did.

This was a shot just after I pulled the motor

Got the engine out and then got the drill and wire brush out, and got off all the loose crap and hit the front frame rails with some of Eastwoods Rust Inhibitor. *Great Stuff I might add*

When i got the truck, the interior was black and gross (I would imagine from being to alot of calls since it was the Chief's vehicle) but I finally got the seats to clean up. The carpet is up a little because the one window seal leaks a little, but I think I may have got that fixed today.

Hopefully I will have the other engine out and ready within a week, and maybe have this on the road in two or so. The engine in my Ram needs freeze plugs BAD (I guess its due at 180,000 miles) so that will be off the road soon for some freshening up.

Same as before, I need a DD before I can work on that anymore. The Ram is getting bad with coolant, and really cant afford to drive the car, so it sits.

excellent progress. Was that TBI by chance. Guy at work had one similiar and it was injected.

How bad is the body rot on the rear fender and behind the door?

It is carbed actually! I sold the carb to a friend since I am going with an aluminum intake and a DP carb.

The body is in great shape with the exception behind and infront of the back wheels. But they are almost straight shots, and my dad is chomping at the bit to work on it, since he loves doing body work. The rest of it is solid. I really couldnt believe it, but it sat inside the Fire House until ~6 years ago.

Here is the motor thats going back in it. Its a 1975 block, it was rebuilt a little while back, but internally its still stock for now.

I just got it together in paint today, so I mocked up some of the goodies. Its an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, Speed Demon 650 carb, Summit Long tubes, holley fuel pump. Hopefully spring time will bring a Comp Xtreme or a VooDoo cam for it, springs, roller rockers, and some other stuff.

SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!! So lets get that sucker back in the rc and get it started up.

bad64chevelle 09-24-2009 07:26 PM

Well, maybe Saturday it can make its way back in there. If I get back early enough from Englishtown tomorrow, maybe tomorrow night we can have an engine installing party.

What I like about Big Jon is he is diverse in his taste in vehicles. He has that nice Fairlane rag top, and now he's working on this Blazer. Next I wanna see him hook up a Rambler.

My grille and headlight bezels were all messed up, so I glued some pieces back together and got them smooth, decided to paint them black for the time being until I get some new pieces. Not to mention some new headlights, and fixed the wiring / etc to make the lights actually work.

bad64chevelle 09-28-2009 07:31 PM

It makes reaching things easier from the top :-) Its actually perfect to use on the Ram since its a bit taller, so I used it on the RC also.

maroman88 09-28-2009 10:12 PM
