Yes.

Oil and filters are high on the "Don't dick around and cheap out" list. Among other entries are tires and brakes.

NastyEllEssWon 09-15-2009 01:52 PM

yup frams are the worst pos' ever

91chevywt 09-15-2009 02:03 PM

I'm sort of thinking another oil filter study may be in order. That study was from 10 years ago. While what is in there is valid, i'm sure there have been changes in the oil filter industry since then. Is anybody up for a group collaboration? Say one member buys one filter, disects, posts up specs and opinions? And we keep it going with one member doing a different brand filter.

camaroracer1992 09-15-2009 02:21 PM

just buy K&N oil filters and dont worry about it. thats all that touches my vehicles

LTb1ow 09-15-2009 03:13 PM

Wix ftw.

Fram ftl.

deadtrend1 09-15-2009 04:23 PM

Not THAT bad, but not THAT good ...

I use NAPA Wix on mine.

powerflow/purolator here but hey i get them free.

iroc86NJ 09-15-2009 10:36 PM

Does any one know if this applies to all Fram filters ie: the HP2 race filters. Or is this just isolated to the Pep Boys/ Auto Zone/ Kmart Fram Grip style filters?

camaro2you 09-15-2009 10:44 PM

k&n or ac delco most of the time in my vehicles. Occasionally a pure one on the equinox or rav 4.

unstable bob gable 09-15-2009 11:16 PM

We sell Fram at Auto Bone...but I go up the street and buy Wix! :!:

Stevoone 09-16-2009 07:21 AM

I use AcDelco filters on all my cars.

MonmouthCtyAntz had an issue with a Fram filter. Sounded like a lifter leaking down at mid RPM's. He was able to isolate the cause to a restricted oil filter.

MonmouthCtyAntz 09-16-2009 08:45 AM

Though some here argued w/ me up and down about it...When I first got my car I did my 1st change w/ a fram and penn. plat...When the car was running for 15-20 minutes it was start to tap violently...Here we are 2 oil changes since and I havent heard the tapping sound since ditching the fram. I try to stick w/ delco now.

NJ Torque 09-16-2009 08:52 AM

yes.

TBSPW 09-16-2009 09:25 AM

yeah i heard they sucked as soon as i bought my camaro...still have never used one and personally am afraid to do so.

Scrat's_Camaro 09-16-2009 10:56 AM

Iroc-z86 09-16-2009 01:00 PM

My cars are always dealer serviced with ac delco products. it might cost more but i have not had a problem yet.

the camaro doesnt see any shop lift... but i do use ac delco filters and castrol gtx

Whiplash Performance 09-16-2009 08:37 PM

All I ever use is AC Delco.

WildBillyT 09-20-2009 08:29 PM

I've been watching the NHRA Pro Stock and Funny car engine teardowns, they use K&N filters...

Masonite 09-20-2009 08:39 PM

"The fram filter I got for free out of an old shed." --quote from the S10 forum post

I'm going to remain skeptical on the issue--we don't know exactly how old that Fram filter was, nor how it was treated, before he made a cutout of it. My father started using Fram filters years back, and I've used nothing other than them since I got my first car. We've never had a single issue with any of the filters.
