Hood pins installed

Installed my hood pins and decided to go out and take a few pictures. If I had a choice I would have kept no pins but the SS hood is too thin and flimsy so for safety they need to be there.

I think I like the pins...got any closeup shots?

Teds89IROC 09-20-2009 07:46 PM

Steve, I actually thought of that after I posted the pics. I've been staring at these pins on my desk all last week that when I finally got them on the car all I thought to take pictures of was the whole car  I'll get close-ups tomorrow.

Did the pins stop the hood from flexing/moving when your driving on the highway?

Thanks again everyone. I've been pretty busy with work and haven't had a chance to stop at the garage to snap a close-up pic, but definitely this weekend.

madness410 09-22-2009 11:53 PM

sick car. ever think about painting the pins black? i think it takes away the slick black look

thunder 09-23-2009 01:53 AM

That would mean lots of repainting, as they wouldn't last long when you are pulling them in and out every time you pop the hood.

I've been busy but I finally got a close-up pic after having to make some adjustments.

The area where the pins sit go through two layers of fiberglass with about an inch of open space. This was the only place where the pins could go on the radiator support. When the hood is pinned down you can see a low spot around the scuff plate; so what I did was picked up a can of "great stuff" expanding foam to fill in the area. I picked up the can meant for window framing and doors because when it expands enough to fill in the areas it stops expanding whereas the other keeps expanding till the chemical reaction is complete....not good for between layers of fiberglass. This worked out awesome and now when the hood is pinned down there are no more low spots.

Bad quality but this is after I filled with the foam:
