The Caprice is Back!
But only if you are a police officer..
http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f...2/#post1861556 DENVER – An all-new Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV) will join the ranks of law enforcement departments across North America in 2011. It’s a modern, full-size, rear-drive sedan that will offer both V-8 and V-6 engines, as well as a host of specialized equipment and features. Chevrolet made the announcement at the annual International Association of Chiefs of Police convention, in Denver, Colorado. The Caprice PPV will be available for ordering next year and will hit the streets in early 2011. “The new Chevrolet Caprice police car is the right tool at the right time for law enforcement,” said Jim Campbell, general manager for GM Fleet and Commercial Operations. “We asked for a lot of feedback from our police customers, which helped us develop a vehicle that is superior to the Crown Victoria in key areas.” Vice President, Global Chevrolet Brand Brent Dewar added, “Along with Impala and Tahoe, the Caprice PPV gives agencies a greater range of choices for police and special service vehicles that are all available from Chevrolet.” Unlike other police cars on the market, the Caprice PPV is not based on existing “civilian” passenger-car model sold in North America. It has been developed in key areas specifically for police duty, containing modern equipment and features: Powerful 6.0L V-8 with fuel-saving Active Fuel Management technology and E85 capability delivers expected best-in-class 0-60 acceleration (sub six seconds) and top speed; a V-6 engine will also be offered, beginning in the 2012 model year [CENTER]http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/g...dium/cap11.jpg http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/g...dium/cap31.jpg http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/g...edium/cap4.jpg http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/g...edium/cap5.jpg |

Wow that's kind of scary there putting a ls2 in a cop car. Its bad enough cops fly and drive like @$$-holes as it is. Now there gonna have a car with a decent amount of power.
|
I can't wait till they start selling off the decommissioned ones...I WANT
|
That car is a rebadged Pontiac G8.

WOW, that's great news AL. How long will it take (for you) to get a chance to RIDE IN ONE  !
|
Actually its not the g8 its the bigger version. Longer wheel base.

Not fair to make such a generalization like that. A majority of the officers I know adhere to speed limits. You do not know where the officer is going or why they may need to be traveling at a high rate of speed. |
Question is guys, what would you rather be chased by, the Dodge Charger cars, or the Caprice?
|
Florham Park PD has a blacked out unmarked car that looks sinister, whether in the rear view or sitting on the side ready to pounce.
But to help GM Fleet, I'd like to see the Caprice's on the road. |
i like the "undercover" package, considering there arent any in the states, we will never be able to spot them lol

Anyway, I'm glad to hear the Caprice is coming back, sucks it won't be a rebadged G8 for public use but I guess we can't expect GM to do the right thing, lol. Pretty sweet as a cop car though, makes me want to go get arrested so I can ride in one.:mrgreen::mrgreen: |
That looks/sounds really cool. Not the styling I envision for the "Caprice" I guess since its been gone so long. But still a cool chevy anyway. Seems like it wouldnt hurt to offer a civilian version down the road.

Is that a made up picture? It looks like the rear spoiler is tilted up in the wrong direction!
|
good stuff...
like the vid of the car sliding around the turn |
All I want is a wrecked one....

Slightly off topic.....But i was watching NASCAR live out of seer boredom a few weeks ago and I remember the hosts discussing "potential" changes to the rule book that would require cup cars to run production based fuel injected power plants and potentially production based rear suspensions as well....
Aside from the insane amount of money that fleet sales for the new caprice will bring in I wonder if homologation could be a factor? I would pay to see Australian Supercars wizzing around a super speed way. Me two cents. |
If NASCAR turned into Aussie V8 Supercar racing...I would buy season tickets, if thats even possible.
Too bad it would only be GM and Chrysler in it though... |
