Need Advice

I am looking at a 1995 Z28 V8 5.7 Liter 6 Speed. The car has 115k miles. I am trading my jeep and paying $1,500 cash for the Camaro. Now i would like to know if there is anything really specific that i need to look out for, i looked at the car today there did not seem to be any leaks and the car ran fine i drove it for about 20 minutes at all sorts of speed and it seemed fine. Is there anything that i really should look out for? i was going to have my local car mechanic look at or my friend down the street that has a Z28 himself. PLease respond!

you should see if they can put a ls1 in it instead of the full tank of gas.
that would be FTW

I would have some else check it out or at least post of some picks...Whats your jeep worth 2500-3500?

S.J.SLEEPER 11-09-2009 07:24 PM

on a serious note:
you might want to look @ the following:
waterpump (see if its new)

optispark ( see if it looks new) if not and it has a new waterpump then likely its gonna need a new opti due to the waterpump leaking

front crank seal ( common to be damp or dirty surrounding it, but make sure no major leak

rear main seal ( look to see if any trails of oil or oil stains @ rear of pan/front of inspection cover on trans

battery (whats the date on it)

clutch (where does the pedal grab hi or low) if high gonna need clutch soon

rear tranny seal (check for leak)

pinion seal on rear (is it leaking)

wipers (are they dryrotted/cracked) worse case you can bitch and get a set of wipers for free !

tires ( dryrot/cracks/wear)

brake pads ( look through wheel to see how much pad left on them)

front end (check for looseness in sterring, also any groans or howls when turning left or right) hub bearings common on them, if bad i have brand new one in box i got stuck with can sell cheap !!!

a/c (blow cold?)

temp gauge ( stay @ 220 or less?)

oil pressure should be like 30-45 psi cold / 15 or so hot @ idle

i think thats enough to check

obviously any engine noise no good !

Yes the jeep has 179000 miles 2500 is the asking price i just want to make sure that i dont get screwed over in buying one because my jeep runs very strong and there isnt a thing wrong with it just lots of miles and old.

maroman88 11-09-2009 08:01 PM

Brendan713 11-09-2009 08:06 PM

Dont hate because your T-Tops leak haha they most likely do leak but all you have to do is re-gauk them and replace the stripping.

or if the t-tops are sealed to the metal and have never been removed. that would require lots of room temperature vulcanize...

fmybody 11-09-2009 08:13 PM

dont get me wrong im just messin but when i was buying my car it went like this

me: do the t-tops leak?
him: nope
me: wow really?
him: well if u go thru high pressure car wash or something u get a little drip
me: yeah it comes with the car no big deal

i got caught in a realllllllll bad rain storm once. and learned it leaks a drip every couple mins from the driver side window more twards the front end..

not a big deal at all..

my iroc on the other hand... granted it was 20 yrs+ was another story haha

ib4200 11-09-2009 08:27 PM

Go for it

sweetbmxrider 11-09-2009 09:45 PM

my ttops dripped....on the passenger side :)

car looks pretty clean. 95+ is what i would go lt1 wise, just my preference. check the hot idle and WOT oil pressure, make sure its decent. look at the waterpump and opti, see if they are newer along with wires and plugs. check to see if there is oil coming from the rear of the intake or the rear main seal. check the fluids to make sure it was maintained and not neglected. look everywhere for any signs of body damage. above all, make sure its what you want!

I'm thinkin those of you who say ur t-tops don't leak.. Just don't know that they leak.. Maybe its a garage queen or u never drive it in the rain or never take it thru the car wash... But hey who knows maybe you guys are lucky lol I'd get a t-top car over a hard top any day.. Ladies love the Ts

Brendan713 11-10-2009 03:01 PM

Where is this on a 95?

optispark ( see if it looks new) if not and it has a new waterpump then likely its gonna need a new opti due to the waterpump leaking
